Why Did GM Route the Heater Return Hose to the Radiator on AT Equipped Trucks in the 70s-80s?

Right. Only on trucks that could tow with AT. Maybe that was intended as additional cooling for the ATF? Yes it is immersed in coolant, but there is no coolant flow when the thermostat is closed. Is it possible on a cold morning while towing, before the thermostat opens the fluid could get...

Why Did GM Route the Heater Return Hose to the Radiator on AT Equipped Trucks in the 70s-80s?

In cold weather I would assume the heater was being used, substantially cooling the coolant. Maybe if the thermostat never opens at least it gets some coolant flow?

Why Did GM Route the Heater Return Hose to the Radiator on AT Equipped Trucks in the 70s-80s?

Every other application outside of trucks with AT routed the return hose back to the water pump, certainly creating more flow through the heater core.

Why Did GM Route the Heater Return Hose to the Radiator on AT Equipped Trucks in the 70s-80s?

Does anyone know why GM routed the heater hose return line to the cold tank of the radiator? These trucks didn’t have heater control valves so the flow is constant. It seems to me that dumping hot coolant on to the transmission cooler is counterproductive. I rerouted the hose to the water...

The coolant I used to use is no longer available and my stash has ran dry.

I vote for Zerez Original Green as well. You can get a case of 6 gallons through Amazon, but it ships from Zoro, maybe ordering straight from Zoro would be cheaper? I’m tired of Dexcool eating up the intake gaskets in my GM 3.4V6, maybe they won’t get mushy with this…….

    Top Tier Stations Detergent Levels

They base the amount of additive on the weight of the residue left behind? Is that an accurate method of determining additive levels? They said the "gum test" is what's used by automakers.... So then the Speedway Regular at 5.2mg can be used as a baseline for what the minimum EPA requirement...

    Generator Carb Problems

So now there's B-60 for "high mileage" 60,000+ miles? How different from B-12 is this? They advertise H.E.S.T. solvents, & of course PEA. They advertise "dissolves carbon", so maybe I should put this in my 195,000 mile Buick?

    Generator Carb Problems

Yes, you are correct. I forgot to mention we bought it in Dec 2020, the house is a 2021 model, the cab & chassis is 2020. I can't recall how many hours are on it, but I think around 100.

    Generator Carb Problems

The only place I have found ethanol free gas is in Texas at Buc-ee's & I think QT, but it's $1 more than regular 87 per gallon. It is 90 octane, tho. In a 60 gallon fuel tank that's +$60! Some of the stations in the hill country (in fact all of them) have 86 octane, which I have used at higher...

    Generator Carb Problems

Yes, rubber hose, I could put an inline valve there, but I'm thinking closer to the filter would be better. I haven't looked myself, but I've seen YouTube videos showing how to access it.

    Generator Carb Problems

Thanks, no shut off that I have found (yet) but it will run out if main gas tank is below 1/4, so I could do that or just drain it. Good advice, I wish the RV dealer mentioned that on the walk-through, instead of recommending putting peppermint oil around the fridge vent.... 🤨

    Generator Carb Problems

Thanks for the advice, I see you're in CA, which gen shop would you consider the best? I'm in the Modesto area now, my RV dealer recommended Industrial Electric, but they never answer their phone or return calls. "Red Barn" in Salida was recommended by another rv dealer, the foreman there very...

    Generator Carb Problems

We have a Cummins Onan QC 4000 generator on our RV that doesn't get a lot of use. It was last run in August, & has been inactive ever since (about 7 months). Now it won't start. Our RV dealer doesn't work on generators, they sub it out, & there's warranty questions, so the shop foreman tried to...

    Top Tier Stations Detergent Levels

You may have hit on something. I have noticed less & less Top Tier stickers on pumps here in CA. I think Costco is the only one still displaying the stickers. ARCO is actually comparable to Costco in pricing, sometimes even cheaper. In fact the last Top Tier sticker I saw on an ARCO pump was in...
