13,000 miles on cheap dino !!!

Growing up I had a friend whose father did a lot of driving for sales calls. Logged about 35,000 miles a year. He had an old Buick with a V8. We were just getting into working on cars and offered to change his oil. His reply was he never changed his oil. He would check it monthly and top it...

    does MMO stabilize fuel?

Not sure about the stabilizing ability, but it makes a great fogging oil. I use it on a small 15 HP outboard I have. Been using it since I bought this engine new in 1988, no problems at all. One time it sat for almost 6 years, it started right up but needed some tweaking and adjusting to get...

    synthetic or oil?

I have a similar situation with one of my vehicles, and according to Mobil the synthetic is the way to go for the 1 year OC intervals. frank1

    Metal Shavings in ATF. Normal???

Aluminum could indicate a torque converter is going. That is what a tranny shop told me when my C4 went bad. They pulled the pan and said the metal that stuck to the magnet was clutches, and the metal that didn't was aluminum and came from the TC. Made sense at the time. I was unable to drive...

Remington Rem Oil w/ Teflon for general use

Teflon oil is fine on the exterior surfaces of a firearm. It is not good to oil a barrel with. Teflon, and the combination of the explosion and combustion that goes on inside a firearm doesn't make a good mix. A top gunsmith warned me against the use. Traces are left in the bore and on...

oil changing? - the best way??

Same problem here with an 18 year old son. He has no interest and no desire to do any work on his Blazer. Its easier and a lot cheaper if I do it for him, that much he does know! frank1

    Clear oil objective

I have to agree with the other posters, the oil is going to darken as you drive the car. As long as you change it at the recommended intervals you should be fine. If you are really concerned go for a UOA, that will take all guess work out. frank1

Purolator oil filter and wix filters ?

Are there differences in the WIX filters? Example NAPA Silver, vs NAPA Gold? I am new to the WIX filters, and was considering filter1.com. Are these the Gold or Silver? I wonder if I am better off buying the Purolators for $2.50 each at Pep Boys when they run them in their ads. Thanks frank1

    Exxon Superflo vs Pennzoil

Thanks for all the replies, Since I have 4 vehicles to maintain the cost adds up. I think what I might do with the 3 that run on dino is add 500 miles to the OCI, and pick up a few free oil changes a year. The one that runs on Mobil 1 is a seperate issue. After reading thru several of the...

Thanks for the replies: The 3 that run on dino are: 93 Aerostar 136,000 miles 3.0L OCI 3,000 mi mixed driving. 95 Caprice 50,000 miles 4.3L V8 OIC 3,000 mi mixed driving. 96 Blazer K5 85,000 miles 4.3L V6 OIC 2,000 mi stop and go. All run great and are well maintained.

    Exxon Superflo vs Pennzoil

For years I have always used Pennzoil dino oil in 3 of 4 family vehicles. I use Mobil 1 in the 4th one. I see them run specials on Exxon Superflo, and its considerably less than the Pennzoil I've been using. Will changing to the Exxon product cause any problems? I plan on sticking with the...

Warm up or no warm up?

I start the car, wait until the fast idle comes down (EFI), and drive away. Usually runs 30 seconds or so, then I drive slowly until it warms up. I just want to be sure that the oil, and tranny oil had some time to get to where it needs to be.

    OCI ???????? thanks in advance

Hypothetical question for dino oil........ Vintage older car well cared for but driven. Manufacturer calls for 3,000 mile OCI. The car is from the mid 80's before these extended drain period dino oils existed. Could you stretch the drain interval to say 4,000 miles if you use say Mobil 5,000...
