Third filter on heavily coked ML320 cut-open after 4000 miles

Ops. Wrong forum. Not sure who to ask to get this moved to filtration. Sorry. Ah, fixed now. TY.

Third filter on heavily coked ML320 cut-open after 4000 miles

The first oil filter's show-and-tell. This is looking much better. Still some cleaning going on. After the horrifying first one, I ran a FRAM XG for 1k miles. (wasn't interesting, didn't take photos) Replaced it with this, MicroGuard Select, and ran for 4k miles. Same oil entire 5k miles...

Using Euro PCEO in 3.0L babymax?

I could not imagine dumping HPL after 1k miles because I was using it for break-in. Every in-spec off-the-shelf oil would be perfectly fine for 1k miles of break-in. If you don't have a use for it anymore, how much do you have and where are you located?

    Quaker State 5W-40 Euro gone?

Lmao. Of course they would say that. How many people do you think are even aware of the real reason? A couple guys at the very top get hinted that the GTL plant may become a target and may go offline for a while, maybe even for a long while. They suggest to marketing dept, "ya know, this GTL...

    Quaker State 5W-40 Euro gone?

Ha! I came by to share the following and the thread's already tee-d up. After watching the Lake Speed video on lubricant supply chains and the big GTL plant going offline, I bought an oil change's worth of Quaker State Euro. I probably won't be due for this fall, but I figured that while we...

Pictures inside a pair of same make/model, 2-year old engines on Valvoline Restore and Protect and HPL

The one oil with the most anomalous blobs at 425F is also the one oil with the 2nd lowest TEOST score and some people are so mad at the test the causes the blobs they can't admit it is uncannily directionally correct. I read this on the internet so it's probably wrong, but... TEOST Turbo®...

Pictures inside a pair of same make/model, 2-year old engines on Valvoline Restore and Protect and HPL

Haha. I was just about to say that. Yes! Think about it. HPL 5W-30 noVII had the longest PDSC time by a long shot. That suggests a very stable oil. Run it 20k miles, it's not going to oxidize. It doesn't care. But then, except for the RedLine, it had the worst TEOST. What gives? Well, what is...

LSJR blends up a custom oil in the lab

He was using Pennzoil Ultra Platium 0W40 SRT. It's interesting he used that one because his car is a Porsche and Pennzoil Platinum Euro 0W40 is the one with the A40 and so-on euro certifications. What I've never quite understood was Pennzoil Ultra Platium is supposed to be the premier Pennzoil...

Penn Platinum vs Ultra... Did I Imagine This?

I've always wondered what the difference is between Pennzoil Ultra Platium 0W40 SRT and Pennzoil Platinum 0W40 Euro. Pennzoil Ultra Platium is supposed to be better than Pennzoil Platinum, but Euro certs are supposed to be more stringent than API/domestic. I would have expected the Euro oils...

    xW-40 vs xW-30 for Mercedes V6 M272?

Well, what prompted this whole line of inquiry was my wondering/supposition that add pack limitations force the use of better base oils. So if I wasn't going to try and push extended OCI's, use the oil that couldn't compensate lesser base oils with the add pack. I mean, they both have the same...

    xW-40 vs xW-30 for Mercedes V6 M272?

Ok... seems the bottom line RE: ESP 30 vs. FS (and PPE) 40 is that the small HTHS difference is unimportant, as are the small amounts of PAO and ester, compared to being able to run full-saps, as this engine allows. True?

    xW-40 vs xW-30 for Mercedes V6 M272?

I never asked *if* ESP can be used. I asked if anyone was aware of reasons this specific engine would not do well on a thinner oil vs. the 40wt that I almost always see used in it.

    xW-40 vs xW-30 for Mercedes V6 M272?

Well, for the first 15 years or so of my ownership I was skeptical of low-SAPS oil and specifically chose full-SAPS oils since I had neither a particulate filter nor direct injection and was interested in maximizing my OCIs. Nowadays I'm less interested in OCI maxing. I also think that with...

    xW-40 vs xW-30 for Mercedes V6 M272?

Fair enough. I apologize. Since apparently you're new here, the reason for such short temper is seeing so many threads fill-up with the same old worthless schlock unrelated to the question at hand. Rotella... just follow the manufacturer's spec... thick vs. thin... it's all so tiresome, you have...
