Actually my first real use of GC is gold! Got about 2K left before my next OCI in a 98 Passat. Can't wait to do the UOA!

I had no problems going 5K in my Cirrus V6. Started with no issues in -20F temps. Lurking about in the forums, other members have trashed this oil...YMMV

So vwoom, How long you been running GC in your ATW? Curious as to what your thoughts are on it? What other oils have you used? Likes and dislikes? Small world, Filipino, B5, GC...

Well, the guy posted back: The car in question was a BMW 316 in Germany. 10K OCIs (manufacturer interval) and car sludged up at 36K. GC used entire time. He said that this model did tend to sludge. So I guess the lesson is not to push the OCI especially in sludgemonsters?

I was lurking about a Passat forum in a thread discussing synthetic oil. Someone posted claiming that he a sludged car using GC! No details yet, but is this possible? I guess what I'm asking, is if you follow proper 5K OCIs, can the VW 1.8T sludge with GC?

Reading everything again, seems that GC is the right oil to use in the sludge-prone engines. 5K is also the safe OCI, with a little bit of leeway, i.e. not...

So if Castrol Syntec (GC excepted) is Group III, does that include BC, 5W-40?

Wow, I love how the word "sludge" nets so many responses! In terms of the VW sludge warranty, it is 8 years starting from the in-service date of the vehicle. So my '98 still has 14 months remaining and my GFs 99 variant is almost two years. So I will keep strict 5K OCIs until the warranty...
