WillyPete,
Saw Amsoil 20w50 in your signature. I've coveted that stuff for years - figure it's gotta be some of the stoutest oils available.
With my 20w50 top off in the Sienna, its sounding/feeling just fine in these brutal temps. Been a "thin oil guy" in the Sienna for a while - but I'm...
concerning the "blind typing" - you need to maximize your browser window. Having your browser window small apparently puts pressure on this dialog box (squeezes it - and it doesn't handle text well).
Hope that helps.

Thru the 1980's and early '90s I ran a lot of GTX 20w50 thru my various Japanese 4 bangers. For giggles I ran a fill of ST 20w50 in my '88 Mazda 323 - that was just a few years ago. Noticeably bogged the...
Mid-1980s the 20w50 advocates were thick as fleas (me included). Any hold-outs out there still running it in their daily driver?
(as my other post states - I'm steadily increasing the mix in my Sienna w/ 20w50 for a remedy test on a consumption issue).

Bought this van w/ ~60k miles on it. Then put 80k miles on it using various M1 oils...
My '98 Sienna is showing it's age - consumption around 1qt/1k mile lately. Been running a mix of 5w20 and 30wts (mostly 20). Also had 8oz of Moly EP oil treatment from Schaeffers in. Still had high consump. So I just topped off w/ 1 full qt Wally ST 20w50. It's fun thinking about the issue. It's...

I'm glad they came along with Ultra. It's what I was looking for - a stout long UOA oil. I previously posted a UOA with Ultra 5w20 - 12.8k mi, 10 mos of the wife commuting kids. Excellent results. I refilled with Ultra 5w20 and I'm well into my second long run now - perhaps 10 to 12 months and...
I've done lots of freezer test. Taking oils down to about -12degF overnite in my freezer in the garage. M1 HM 10w40 got scary thick. 5w20's do great. MMO is a bit thicker than milk after a nite in the freezer (ie, very thin).
Fun stuff those freezer tests!

Isn't that an old Amsoil FAQ sheet. Amsoil no longer recommends the 6mo/12k filter change (or am I mistaken), and that FAQ is pushing their "signature series 0w30" for a w20 app. Currently Amsoil would push their 0w20.
Good stuff still. Thanks for the post.
Another any truth question -
Is there any truth to the belief that ethanol has a slight "drying effect" in the fuel system? (Previous poster may have alluded to this.) Thus more motivation for MMO in the fuel?
Hijacking my own thread -
Plenty of safe legitimate uses for MMO. eg, I've run OCIs w/ 15w40 or 5w30 in my Sienna and change it in the Spring. Top off with a quart of MMO in December (the van needs it by then). Safe app for MMO and it (IMO) provides smoother starts for December thru February...
