C1 vs C3 lubricants, the OM646LA Engine Wear Test

Hi! What about low reference oil and high reference oil respective NOACK? I recall ACEA C1 was made to be an ILSAC GF-5 sibling, request from some Japanese and American automakers. I don't know nowadays, but some years ago, Acea C1 allowed 15% NOACK whereas all other ACEA categories allowed...

    Diesel additives for DPF/EGR longevity

Usually, the higher the vehicule's average speed is, the hotter the DPF is, the less regen it has to do, the longer the DPF lasts.

UOA : BKD Pump Duse 2008 Jetta TDI without DFP

    Hello! Thanks to good results with thinner oils, I'll move to 50-100% ACEA C2 (~ 10 cst @ 100°C) and ACEA C3 (~ 12 cst @ 100°C) 5w-30 mixes to improve mpg.

Ferrari AGIP Sint 2000 10w50 replacement for catalyst cars

Like other sport car makers, Ferrari probably advised to use 50 weights because before the 90's, mandatory HTHS for 5W-40 and 10W-40 was only of 2.9 (like 5W-30), while Mandatory minimum HTHS for 15W-40, 20W-40, and upper weights was 3.5. Since then, VII have largely improved. Since 1994...

Ferrari AGIP Sint 2000 10w50 replacement for catalyst cars

Hello! Nice car! If I raced the car, I would put a 20W-50 into it ; usually 20W-50 have very goog NOACKS : no more than 10. There are a few issues : 1. Larger spreads oils apart the -W- shear down faster. They also contain more VII, letting more deposits while burning. So I would avoid 0W- and...

    Eneloop battery life?

I have many of them, they last far more than that! Nobody lived enough to challenge it! :) They deserve a top end charger, like a liitokala or nitecore, and they will outlast anything!

Good low volatility 10w-30 for a Skyactive GDI engine?

Do you really think the engine would notice the differences between a 10w-30 at 30°C and a 5w-30 at 20°C ? The engine knows nothing, as both of these oils weight 10 CST at 100°C. I would pour the lower Noack in this engine, thinking it will be the 10w-30.

High performance (800hp+) for winter and summer - Audi 4.0t

Well, as you are living in the snowy north, in such a pushed engined, I would put 5W-40 during winter, or maybe an Euro 5w-30, as the HTHS is rather the same (3.5cP). For the summer, as this engine might get terribly hot, I would rather put some 20W-50 or even 25W-60, as these are usually...

Does synthetic protect better than dino

Synthetic does not protect better, it protects longer the engine, because it can bear oxydation. Dino can stand 10 000 miles, whereas Synthetic can last 20 000 miles. It's the additives that protect the engine. The better the additives, the better the protection. But about which "Synthetic" are...

Decision Time, Would like some input from the forum

Hi! Newer gdi and other direct injected motors dilute massive amounts of fuel into oil. But it is quite a feature, and no Honda would be damaged by that :-) Oil can loose 2 or 3 CST at 100°C in a gasoline motor, since it's still far higher than 5 cst, it won't hurt anything. Keep OCI around 7...
