Mobil 1 synthetic grease does not contain any moly.
Clunking noise is usually due to stiction when the old grease in the insert housing becomes useless. There are more in depth explanations finding faults in the inherent design of the dampers in a thread on NASIOC (North American Subaru Impreza...
I'm not sure what you mean by strut bearings. I took the insert out of the strut housing. I was planning on cleaning out the current yellow grease in the housing near the top of the body where the insert came out of. It is nearest the dust seal.
I have 2004 STi struts that I am taking apart and repacking with grease to help fix a notorious clunking issue that they have.
I'm not sure what grease I should go with. I bought Mobil 1 Synthetic Red grease but it does not contain any moly. Should I gow tih something like Valvoline's...
If you want cheap Motul call up the service dept. at South Coast Subaru here in Socal. I got five liters of 8100 Xcess 5w40 for $5.95 each, they also carry the 8100 Eco-nergy 5w30 for the same price.
However, based on my UOA, it didn't do so hot.
Well I finally went to the RLI website to see how much the BioSyn will cost me. $35 for the gallon of 5w40HD isn't bad, but then a whopping $20 for shipping!!! Yikes

^^^I understand.
When I do try some Amsoil, I'll run a UOA and if it improves upon my situation with the Motul I'm running, then I'll definitely recommend it.
Despite the marketing strategies, I'll probably try some AMSOIL in the future.
But I've read the ENEOS threads on these forums and I just cannot buy from that company.
