    Your most difficult junkyard pick?

When I lived in NorCal in the 1990's, Pick-and-Pull was a regular stop for us high schoolers to keep our $250 cars running.. A friend of mine had a VW Golf and needed an exhaust manifold. We found one and pulled it in about an hours' time. I wouldn't say it was difficult, but it sure was...

    Citgo Supergard Full Synthetic - 0W-20 - 2014 Toyota Sequoia 3UR-FE

First UOA was with TGMO, when I bought the truck last March. The second is Supergard. (They didn't update the oil brand..) I'm at 170k now - I'll likely switch to a 10k interval. The book says 5k because it's a FFV, but I don't use E85.

    Oil Extractor Experience

I've been using a MityVac 7201 and before that a Pella for at least 15 years. On the RX400h and the previous Sienna's I could access the filter from the top, and change oil in my business casual clothes. I now have a Sequoia with the 5.7L, based on what I've read I will need to gravity drain...

Oil Change - Hot or Cold

Hot. Soon as I pull into the garage after work, in goes the MityVac 7201 evacuator. I'll pump it a couple dozen times, and go inside and change clothes, by the time I get back I can usually take off the filter, and pump more out with the MityVac. Been doing it that way for years, had a Pella...

does anyone change batter at a set TIME??

I bought a couple of used vehicles that had the "7 year" batteries. (Autocraft Gold, Blain's Platinum, Johnson Controls). They failed right at 7 years. (They had the round month / date stickers on the side). I replaced them with the same JCI 7 year batteries, but plan to replace them around the...

    Citgo SuperGard 5W-20, 5001 mi, 08 Lexus RX400h

I'm into the Citgo for about $.70 - $1.25 per quart AR. Quaker State filters about $1.50. I could probably extend the OCI on this vehicle, but I think I'll just save my UOA money and stick to factory intervals of 5k for <$10 per.

    Citgo SuperGard 5W-20, 5001 mi, 08 Lexus RX400h

First UOA of my '08 RX400h. Hybrid with 3MZ-FE engine. Lab was ALS. Oil was in service for 6 months, mostly city / suburban driving. Quaker State QS-3614 filter. Drained and refilled with same oil, and Mahle OC-338 filter.

'08 Lexus RX400h, Factory Fill, 110k, Toyota ATFWS

First ATF analysis on my RX400h. Drained and refilled with 4 quarts of Toyota ATF-WS. I bought the car with 89k miles, and I assume it was the factory fill. Lab was ALS. They flagged it as abnormal due to high Fe, Al, Ni, Si as can be seen on the report.

2011 Kia Optima hybrid - blown engine

The crankshaft won't rotate, so I assume at a minimum it needs the bottom end. It has not been worked on yet, so no word on what the top end is like. She changed the oil regularly herself (she's a farm gal), but I'm sure she has no records or proof that KIA would require. Sounds like if she...

2011 Kia Optima hybrid - blown engine

Kia extended the warranty of the short block to 120k. She was ~10k miles over that, but one would think if she escalated it with Kia corporate, perhaps they'd give a better deal than $10k?

2011 Kia Optima hybrid - blown engine

A family friend of ours has a 2011 Kia Optima hybrid with about 130k miles, engine blew a few weeks ago. The dealer wants around $10k to replace the engine. What's the going rate for a non-dealer shop to take care of this? I see there are a bunch of these engines on car-part.com for around...
