A Review of Engine Oil Additives

What is "good oil"? My '06 Lincoln Town Car has 159K on the odometer, 125K put on by me. I changed O/F every 8K to 10K miles, avg 21.5 MPG, use ABSOLUTELY no oil between changes, and have used nothing but CAM-2 100% Synthetic as long as I have owned the car. Is that "good oil"~?

    AutoZone clearance SKUs

I'm really at a loss trying to understand the il-logic of trying to save a $ on something essential that will last for the next 5K to 10K miles. Look at what you are paying for one gallon of fuel and the distance it will serve you till the next fill. I'm far from rich, but when I find the...

Please help me understand Extended Oil Drain motor oils

You are living in the '50s. Back in the day we had open crankcases allowing the engine to take in dirty air and pollute the oil. Today we don't have that type of crankcase ventilation. In those days we had carburetors so the fuel mixture was not always 'spot-on'. Carburetors allowed cylinder...

    Septic Tank Service

Hmmmm. What in the world are you putting in your septic tank? I've only had one pump out in over 20 years. I don't wash any food or non-degradable debris into mine. The pump out was caused by a failed drain field. The old drain field was made out of the old black perforated piping and had...

    0W8 and 0W12 API discussion

That was me~! I have used 5W-20 motor oil in every vehicle I've ever owned starting with a new Dodge Polara 500 in 1965 with a 383 cu in motor. That first oil was Atlantic Imperial. I've lived in NJ and FL. I've never had an oil related engine failure. My father drove a 1956 Studebaker...

Post your latest oil purchase or even filter.

Today's cars and trucks are costing $40K to $80K. Why would anyone concern themselves about saving $1 or even $5 when considering motor oil or filter cost~?

    5W-20 wr motor oil

I've used 5W-20 wt oil in every vehicle I've ever owned since 1965. In 1965 Chrysler was rumored to have soft crank shafts and it was said that heavier weight oil should be used to protect them. I've always viewed oil as a lubricant rather than a cushion, and I never cranked an engine over...

    Switching to M1 0w40

I used a 'speedy oil change joint' once and only once. The tech installed the drain plug with a torque wrench, The next time I changed my oil I had to use the longest breaker-bar I could find and all the strength I had to remove that plug~!!

Those with 150,000 miles or more, check in

As best I can remember, the Buick engine was cooled by a liquid coolant, so in either hot or cold weather the engine would be kept at whatever temperature the thermostat in the cooling system was designed to keep it. I've run 5W-20 in every car I've ever owned since 1964 regardless of what part...

Motor Oil Weight for 2009 Ford F-150

My, my. Remembering that air cooled engines are affected by ambient temperatures, run 40 wt in hot climates and 20 wt in cold climates. We are talking about air cooled engines and not water cooled, right~?

    Change of motor oil weight

I worked for an oil/fuel jobber and met the CAM-2 rep. He knew more about motor oil than anyone I've ever talked to. We became distributors and I began using it. We also sold Amalie and Citgo, but was so impressed with the DAM-2 rep that I decided to use it.
