Aisin TF-80 External filter setup and filter choice.

I would just like to update this thread by reporting that the gearbox seems to shift even smoother now with zero judder. Whilst there wasn't anything wrong with it before, I noticed slight judder with a cold engine as I pulled away. Looking forward to cutting this filter open at some point and...

I used this filter head as it was much cheaper than a mocal one and does the same job: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/333224280398 It takes the unusual M16x1.5 thread oil filters of which there are two easily available ones in the UK, the Fleetguard HF7554 (which I am currently using) and the MANN...

That's exactly my point of view, the exploded diagrams of automatic gearboxes make me shudder with how complex they are! I once went through a phase of being obsessed with oil specifications for this gearbox. I seem to recall that the JWS3309 or the AW-1 shouldn't be replaced with a 'generic'...

Which filter for next change: Purflux chevron vs MANN vs Manufacturer filter

Ah ok, I tried to take a picture of the inside pleats but can't focus on them. The inner plastic tube is difficult to see through. From my own visual inspection I can't see anything metallic. In terms of the Mann filter the model of it is the HU 711/51x, the ‘U' denotes that the filter is...

Which filter for next change: Purflux chevron vs MANN vs Manufacturer filter

I've just double checked and both the Purflux and the OEM contain a plastic structure in the middle. I've Just checked and even the MANN contains a very similar plastic insert.

That would be an interesting way to do it. Personally, I don't see the problem with the restriction of a suitably large filter, after all, people fit tiny magnefine filters on much bigger transmissions seemingly without issue. I'm not sure about all gearboxes but I was under the impression that...

Which filter for next change: Purflux chevron vs MANN vs Manufacturer filter

Very interesting replies. I had not considered the synthetic vs cellulose possibility of the OEM filter. Whilst I do own all three filters (and another 5 of the purflux ones that i bought as a pack of 6 on eBay) I am leaning towards the OEM one at the moment for my own car. I service a few cars...

Which H7 for low beam w/ DRL?

I have used both the Osram Nightbreaker and Philips X-treme Vision and whilst very bright, they both failed to last more than 3 months before one of them blowing however.

Which filter for next change: Purflux chevron vs MANN vs Manufacturer filter

I think I agree with the sentiment here, the Purflux just looks like a cheaper version of the OEM. I was unable to find any information relating to the micron ratings by any of the manufacturers unfortunately. So it's between the MANN and the genuine OEM filter, shame as I bought a pack of 6...

Ok, well since I am already about £60 invested in this mod (price of sandwich plate and hose), I don't mind buying and additional filter at some point. I will also be fitting a thermostatically controlled oil cooler soon so this is not the end of the spending yet! On my setup as you can see...

vw - adding external trans filter

Very interesting, do you ahve any pictures of your setup? I too am considering using a fuel filter as my transmission oil filter as the micron rating is nice and low.

Which filter for next change: Purflux chevron vs MANN vs Manufacturer filter

Here for comparison are three filters. Two of the three are made by Purflux, a division of Sogefi. As can be seen from a quick visual inspection, both of chevron style filters are made by purfux and this is reflected on the filter cap: The Purflux: And the Manufacturers: By looking it...

Thanks for the replies. I must say I'm really pleased with this gearbox, it is much better in stop and go traffic, which is becoming increasingly common over here. My only slight complaint is the shift points and lock up behaviour, I wish there was a way that I could modify this myself but...
