    Checks When Buying New Car

Congrats, OP! I think you're doing it right, going into it eyes wide open. We will, however, need pics!

Anyone ever change oil in rental car?

I haven't changed the oil on a rental (and don't ever plan to), but I have washed a rental before bringing it back. In fact, I've also washed loaner vehicles I've gotten from the dealership before returning them. Oh well...

    Oil filter wasn't changed

That crustiness almost looks like the filter wasn't on very tight, possibly leaking oil when the engine is running. If so, you'd definitely have low oil pressure issues. I would replace with a quality brand name filter, check oil level and top off if needed, then drive around and keep an eye on...

I just ordered my Pirelli Scorpion AS PLUS 3

I've got about 3K miles on these same tires currently, wrapped on 19" AMG wheels. The ride is tight, very controlled, firm but comfortable. The grip in wet or dry conditions is excellent, body control is confidence inspiring and braking distance is reassuring. They are XL rated tires, great for...

    Best New Mid-Size SUV ?

It's kind of difficult to clearly define "mid-size" SUVs these days. It really depends what your references are.

Which oil would you choose? Seeing specs only

Depends on how much oil you're burning; if none, then probably none. If some, then you're possibly reducing the DPF's useful life.

Which oil would you choose? Seeing specs only

I'd go with the highest HTHS oil. To me, anything below 1% SA is "low" and as long as you're not burning oil, your DPF should be just fine. For reference, I run a 4.2 HTHS rated HDEO oil and I'm tuned, so I like the extra protection a slightly thicker oil provides me. My EcoD doesn't burn oil...

    air pressure and dry traction

On classic cars, which tend to be on the portly side of the scale, I would opt for lower pressures rather than higher. They were made to glide over the road, not feel and telepathically communicate every crack in the pavement to your fingertips. In a 16" tire, I'd run no more than 30-32 psi for...

Big vs. Mini Trucks: New Purchases

Really digging that Silverado beast. Lucky for me it wouldn't fit in the garage so I settled on a half-ton.

I Had a Mid, Mid Life Crisis

Can't believe no one's asked the real important question yet: What oil are you running in it? What filter?? What OCI??? (bet placed on Rotella T6)

Any opinions on Pirelli Scorpion AS Plus 3?

I've read some reviews of the AS+3 on half-ton Rams, people seem to like them but it's going to be subjective. For the price difference between them and the Defenders, I would probably buy the AS+3 again for my mid-size (but chonk) GLK250. If they were the same price, I'd have gotten the...

    2024 Silverado 3.0 Duramax, 18.8k mi; 5W-30 Amsoil Diesel Oil 5k mi

+1 on the advice to run a "true" diesel oil, and something other than a 0w20. And this has been my opinion even before GM realized they have an issue with the 6.2L using 0w20 and recommending a 0w40 instead... If it were my truck, and it's equipped with a diesel engine, it would get a fully...
