Wow, Tesla laying off more than 10% of its world wide workforce, two Top Executives leaving

Maybe I have watched too many slasher movies but it always seems like the EV charging stations in a mall or food store parking lot are way back in a far, isolated corner. Yes, I have thought that I would not want my daughter there at night waiting for her car to charge.

Ever had a engine or Transmission failure?

2008 Saturn Outlook - Tranny wave plate failure at 30,000 miles. Fixed under warranty. Rod bearing failure at slightly over 100,000 miles. Car was nothing but trouble from the moment we bought it so we sold it to Peddle.com and opened up a bottle of wine to celebrate its departure.

Help with teaching a kid to drive.

I taught my son to drive in empty parking lots when he was about 21 years old as he never wanted anything to do with driving. Unfortunately, my wife thinks it is fine if her precious sonny boy doesn't drive. She only wanted him to have a license as a form of ID. Nuff said about my wife. He did...

The dangers of a long beard.

Years ago, a mechanic I used told me a story. He used to be a large truck mechanic. One of his co-workers was just finishing up some engine work on a Mack truck. While standing on the front bumper, he grabbed the bulldog to close the engine cover and jumped off. Unfortunately, the ear of the dog...

    Fresh Oil = Quiet

This was actually an advertising campaign many, many years ago for Pennzoil. The ad stated that something like 7 out of 10 people perceived their car to be quieter after an oil change. I figured since they said "perceived", it wasn't something that Pennzoil was claiming as an actual truth.

    Where do you grocery shop?

Stop n Shop. Truthfully, I like the people that work there; Linda, MaryLee, Jen, James, Patty. I still value a friendly smile and a "hello". That's what keeps me there. It's a big market with a small town feel especially since I shop fairly early on a Sunday morning when there is not a crowd.

Tires wearing evenly. Do I need to rotate?

My recent experience is that a tire shop may not replace just two if the other two will have a tread depth difference of maybe 4/32" from the brand new tires. So, you may have two perfectly serviceable tires with life left in them that will have to be replaced too. AWD systems supposedly need to...

How do you like the driving aids in today's cars?

My car doesn't have them but I have driven cars that do. I don't mind them, but I prefer to not have them. On the other hand, they are in my daughter's car and I feel better about that. She's a good driver but it's almost like another pair of eyes keeping an eye on things. Gives me a little bit...

NYC ... My view from the past two weeks

Back around that same time, my wife and I had gone in and parked on 42nd St just outside the Lincoln Tunnel and walked east. Beautiful, sunny Saturday afternoon. Coming back to the car about 10:30 at night, the "atmosphere" on 42nd St had changed, and not for the better. My wife was so scared...

    Do you snore?

I moved into an upstairs bedroom. Best decision of my life. It's a win win for both me and the wife. I've gotten so used to my personal space, vacation presents some challenges but at least that's only a short-term issue.

Need a tire rec - 09 Honda CRV

I have Mavis Traction Control tires on my '08 CR-V. They're made by Hankook and seem fine to me. I find them to be a smooth, comfortable ride. I'm not really a fan of Mavis but their hours fit with my schedule as they have Saturday and Sunday hours. I have an ETD Tire place in town that I would...

    GTX Magnatec Is Back

Yes, Castrol is funny that way. They had this great product that many folks on here loved and they really promoted the intelligence of their molecules. Then they get rid of Magnatec, replace it with GTX F/S, claim it has the same intelligence but barely mention it. Then they reply to a question...

    GTX Magnatec Is Back

According to Castrol, both GTX FS and Edge have the intelligent molecules just like Magnatec did. Edge is their best and strongest oil. Someone on here posted the direct quote from Castrol Customer Service a while back.
