I agree, that is not too bad. I was mostly refrencing with regards to a longer OCI. Thanks for posting the results!

Yeah Personally, doing more oil changes does suck. I rather change oil more often then an engine though. If you do not get the lead under control, and run long OCI, that is what lies ahead unfortunately.

I'm willing to agree with him, the 5.6 VK56VD is even worse in some regards because it has Direct Injection, they get oil dirty very quick. I think this may be why you saw good results on SAPS oils.

Same here, the lead is the scary one to me.

Those are great improvements, however I've seen many of these engines give up the ghost due to rod bearing issues. That's the main one I'd be watching out for. I'm going to do an oil analysis myself on my 07 M45. It currently has a fill of 5w40 Castrol Euro. I saw how low your lead went on the...

If I were you, I'd go back to the 0w40 Mobil Euro. These engines are similar to the BMW S65 V8, in the fact that the bearing clearances are very tight. This leads to increased bearing wear and if bad enough, rod knock. Whatever is in the last oil you used, isn't good enough for these engines...

Yep, as expected. At least with ring issues, different oils will react differently to burning. But the PCV design on the VK45 simply sucks up the oil and burns it through the exhaust, so wouldn't matter what kind of oil was being used.

I believe it to be related to the PCV system actually. Here's why, if you remove your intake manifold, rather if you separate it in half via the bolts, you will definitely see oil in the intake. And most M45 on startup, definitely oil getting sucked into the intake. Also many folks with VK and...

Engine developed a rod knock. With regards to oil consumption, I don't think it's any ring seal issue, just a PCV related issue. Most folks never take a look in the intake manifold, and I don't blame them. I had to quite recently though, and there was significant amounts of oil in there. I'm...

Well you don't have to buy it, I'm simply saying what happened. The VK45DE is known for throwing poor bearing wear numbers at times. The smart thing to do is what OP is doing and monitor which oils work best for that particular engine.

I was running the top of the line supertech 5w-30 synthetic when my M45 VK45de let go. Kinda see why. I have switched to Castrol Edge euro 5w-40. We'll see how that goes.
