    Coolant Loss 2005 Equinox

Didn't pay the $2000, found a much better price. He sent me some photos of the job and noted a small 'casting mark' or imprint on the cyl head. Said he'd never seen something like that before and said that may have had something to do with it leaking after all these years combined with the lousy...

    Coolant Loss 2005 Equinox

Got the Equinox repaired. It was a head gasket. Replaced both of them plus the intakes. Vehicle now driving like it should be. It was also misfiring on cylinder #2 setting off the check engine light and had the temp gauge creeping past the halfway line when at a stop light.

    Coolant Loss 2005 Equinox

I believe it is a head gasket leak as discussed with the manager of the garage I get our vehicles serviced at. Thinking it might be something else I put in some of the GM sealant tabs. Can't really tell if the leak a has slowed down but I do have to constantly add coolant especially after a...

    Degas tank hose connections

Chevy 2005 Equinox, dealing with coolant loss issues as discussed in the "Cooling System Fluids" page. Figure this is a mechanical topic....The degas tank. Everyone has a different view on how EXACTLY this operates, so I'm a bit confused. On a Chevy Equinox degas tank there is a bottom hose...

    Coolant Loss 2005 Equinox

Update...Coolant loss has been intermittent but have gone through 3L in 3 weeks. Very inconsistent. Some mornings the level is low, other mornings right at the "cold fill line". Before I take it to the shop thought I'd mention no milky stuff on oil dipstick or oil filler cap. Can't really tell...

Idea to AVOID BUBBLES on a Radiator Drain & Fill

Bgallagher - do you simply open the bleeder screw on the small 'tower' next to the water pump? Do it as it's idling or not running at all? I might be having some issues with air in my wifes' Equinox cooling system.

    Coolant Loss 2005 Equinox

Filled the Equinox to the "cold fill" line 2 days ago. It has been driven around the city since then, plus a 1.5 hr highway drive (45 mins each way)last night. Checked the degas tank this morning, coolant still at the "cold fill" line. No coolant loss this time around. Can't figure it out.

    Coolant Loss 2005 Equinox

Thanks Chris M. Did he say what was done to correct the problem or what the problem actually was? Gasket, EGR, other?

    Coolant Loss 2005 Equinox

Let's try a different approach. Why would coolant rush into the degas bottle as I crack it open even after sitting overnight? Is the system constantly under pressure?

    Coolant Loss 2005 Equinox

A puzzling situation in our 2005 Chev Equinox with 133,000 km on it. I have maintained the system well over the years. Lately, the coolant level has been dropping to below the "Fill Cold" line about 1"-2". With the vehicle cold, I open the pressurized cap on the degas bottle to add more coolant...

How often should I change my coolant?

Would changing the coolant in the pressurized o/flow tank yearly have any benefit? I can get about 2.5 L out of mine which represents a little more than 1/4 of the cooling system capacity. I do believe the coolant in this tank circulates throughout the cooling system? I don't have a rad cap and...

    Honeywell oil filter

I just recently had an oil & filter change at my usual place of auto service. Upon returning home and checking things out like I usually do, I discover they've used a Honeywell oil filter, possibly a "Defense" one. Anyone know much about these filters? Truck will run about 6000 km or 6 months on...

    Pressurized Coolant tank - circulation

For newer vehicles that have the pressurized coolant tank (no visible rad or rad cap) does the coolant re-circulate? It looks like it leaves the bottom of the tank, goes to the engine area and returns via a smaller hose at the top. Wondering if draining and re-filling this tank every spring and...
