Couldn't the oil just pass through the filter media and then pull the ADBV into the engine? This is a good theory. It would explain why the ADBV wasn't clamped tightly between the end cap and base plate. I can't see oil flow pulling it out of a well-clamped joint.

Someone found a link to what the dealer was showing the OP. Look at the bottom photo on the right. It looks like the ADBV can actually be ripped out of the filter and drawn into the engine. I suppose if the ADBV isn't "clamped" properly between the end cap and base plate it could happen. I...

Ah, found it. It's a GS, so N/A 2.5L. OEM filter p/n: 1WPE-14-302

Car in question is a 2008 Nissan Altima S 2.5L with 140k on it. The maintenance schedule calls for a 30k/24mo interval. The current filter is a Fram Extra Guard with 25k/24mo on it. I checked it today, and while it doesn't look terrible, it's dirty to the point that I think it's due for...

I would dump the FF and filter now, due to engine break-in shavings. Then fill with your favourite oil and filter, reset the Maintenance Minder (MM), and carry on as usual following the MM. I like your Magnatec and 1/2 OLM idea too. Does the same thing without resetting the MM prematurely...

I'll fill it right to the top mark of the dipstick. By the time everything drains down, it's probably ~0.1L overfilled. I'm fine with that.

The problem with some DI engines is carbon build-up on the intake valves without port fuel injection to wash it away. More frequent oil changes isn't going to affect that.
