Helping my parents get a Tesla

Well, if that is what he buys, roll with it. I would get a charging station set up in his garage asap. If they do not drive much, a 120v charger may work fine. Set the max charge to 90% and tell him to plug it in every night. And I would teach a little at a time, only just enough so he can drive...

110 charging in the real world

I don't know if this is out yet or if it would work at your house, but check this out: https://electrek.co/2022/07/27/siemens-home-ev-charger-adapter/

The Sodium-Ion Battery Is Coming To Production Cars This Year -CleanTechnica

Thanks for this information! I have wondered what the sodium ion battery specs were but hadn't seen any info. I am very curious to see how well they work in cars. As mentioned by another person, this seems to be a done deal as it has been announced this battery will be in cars toward the end of...

    DC Fast Charge Issue

Wow! The popping sound may have been the fuse in the battery. Tesla uses a pyro fuse, so maybe Ford does too? It will be interesting to find out what failed! Hopefully just a new fuse and the Ford is ready to go.

    Electromecannica Solo EV

Yeah, it is unfortunate for them. I think it was a business plan/decision made a few years ago when EVs were very high priced. But EVs have changed significantly. The 2023 Bolt EV is to be priced at $25k, and there are others coming out that are cheaper as well. They likely will have a tough go...

Renting a LEAF for a week

And to add to what The Critic said: if you take the Leaf on a long trip where you have to charge multiple times, the charging rate is throttled back. This is done to prevent degradation to the battery. It is odd Nissan never switched to water cooling. I think if it was water cooled, it would be...

Consumer Reports Finds EVs least reliable cars and trucks in the automotive industry

I am curious... what is the median price of cars now?

US Crosses the Electric-Car Tipping Point for Mass Adoption

I know this is an old post but I have a Bolt so I thought I would respond. If you use oem tires you will be closer to 4 miles per kwh. Unless you have a lead foot. Driving electric can save a lot of money ... I paid about $175 to fuel my car for the previous year. The Bolt is likely...

Tesla Model Y LR Electricity Costs vs. Gas

Wow! You have some expensive electricity. The rate for me at my house is $.079 a kwh here in WA state. Your rate is as expensive as going to the local dcfc station without a membership.

Just a friendly head's up: this picture is of Escondida, a copper mine in Chile. It is the world's largest copper mine.

It was (I believe not anymore) sold as an Opel Ampera. Got to love the name.

Who lives near a nuclear power plant?

I am not an expert on reactors nor do I live near one. However, I believe they are relatively safe until a freak perfect storm happens. Having said that, you would probably face more danger on the road leaving the area from mass hysteria. Maybe plan a safe way to evacuate the area if needed?

Is it safe to buy a Chevy Bolt?

Hi, are you referring to the fifth character in the vin? It is my understanding (and my info could be wrong) that a W, or an X is not dcfc. What I am finding is some Bolts with a W have dcfc and others with a W do not. The only thing I can figure is special order cars were upgraded but the vin...

Is it safe to buy a Chevy Bolt?

I am looking for one myself. It is a little tricky looking for a Bolt online as many do not have dcfc and dealers either do not know that or are deliberately omitting info about lack of dcfc. So far what I am finding is just a little outside my price range.
