I recently found out that my 04 Jag S-Type specifies 5W-30 or 5W-40 oil. I always used 5W-30. Funny, the only 5W-40 oil they sell at Wallmart is the synthetic version of Shell's HDEO Rotella. Question is, anyone out there putting HDEO in cars? Sounds like Rotella can clean out clogged septic...

So,I'm a big Maxlife fan but WM had Catrol's HM in the green bottle on sale. I broke down and bought 10, 5 quart jugs of the stuff. Problem is, I'm having buyer's remorse since I know nothing about how well it stacks up against Maxlife. Did I make the wrong decision? I still have the receipt!

Good insights. I've always worried about the fine filtration vs oil flow trade-off too. Only way to get WIX at the price of a Purolator, is obviously to buy online in bulk. It is surprising though, to see some of the so called high end filters to feature leaf springs or straight tubes.

The mistake was that the Purolator is listed as having a leaf spring, when in fact, the one i bought has a coil spring. I agree Wix/NAPA filters take first prize. Taking retail cost into consideration, however, makes those Purolators stand out. Just look at that media surface! Cheers

Only problem with this filter is the leaf spring. Coil springs are better.

Update Raising PSI improves road holding, handling, MPG and road noise without sacrificing wear (as long as not too high). Only downside is a less compliant ride.
