I too know very little about Sulphur and a used oil analysis other than I think it's from the fuel used. Not that there is a connection, but in my recent used oil analysis of my RAM 1500 it too had a Sulphur count close to what was found in my wife's Mazda. used oil analysis for my RAM here...
Thanks, All! First time posting my used oil analysis for my 2021 RAM 1500 with a non eTorque 5.7L HEMI. I'd love some feedback on the results. Thanks!
Backstory and observations: Bought the truck a little over a year ago with roughly 21,000 miles from the original owner—wanted a non eTorque...
Thanks for reply. I know virtually nothing about Sulphur and oil, and what it means. I'll have to do some reading about it here. As for fuel, the manual calls for 87 octane but we always run 91 octane in it and 95% of the time it's from Shell (same fuel used in all of the used oil analysis). The...
Identical driving habits to the last OCI. Here's some info:
Maintenance, Care and & Typical Driving Conditions: We live about 30 miles outside San Francisco. I’m beyond picky with the car, religiously running OEM filters and the 0W-20 Mazda Moly oil with OCIs of 5000 miles or once-a-year. It’s...
Thanks, All for the info. Didn't occur to me to do a VOA 🤦♂️, but maybe that would have given me more info. For now, I'll heed your advice and carry on, now with HPL and OEM Japan-source filter. I'll report out the results after my next OCI.
Thanks again!
Updating this thread with the most recent UOA in case anyone wanted to see the latest results: https://bobistheoilguy.com/forums/threads/mazda-moly-0w-20-6-2k-mi-2016-mazda-cx-5-2-5l-n-a-81k-mi.398385/
Here is a link to my first post last year when I noticed increased Iron and Aluminum for the first time since starting to get used oil analysis on our 2016 Mazda CX-5 with the 2.5L naturally aspirated Skyactiv motor...
Sorry to revive an old thread, but before posting my next used oil analysis I wanted to ask how best to handle the organization of it all.
1.) Post them here and continue the thread
2.) Create a new thread with all the latest specs and used oil analysis
A.) Link back to this...
Curious why you like the 2.0 over the 2.5, are they more long-lived? Easier on the oil? I’ve never read up on the differences—I assumed the displacement difference was all stroke; if so, more side loads on the pistons? Any info you can share would be cool. Thanks!
@The Critic, I’m considering...
I told my wife about BITOG and that you told me to quit telling her to gently accelerate 😂(y) and she got a kick out of it. She told me I'm outnumbered now and she can do whatever she wants! Truthfully, it was always just a delicate request, but we laughed and rolled our eyes about by pickiness...
Thanks for all the info, I appreciate it. That was going to be one of my next questions in here; what would be a good alternative (and hopefully and improvement) for our use case oil and weight that we could jump to for our CX-5?
That's good to know, I'd not considered the accuracy of their tests--yikes, so it could be much worse? Is there another value in the BlackStone test that I can use to verify that the oil isn't too diluted and still has its properties alongside the FP?
The first OCI was a lot more city/in-town...
Thanks for the info, sorry, still learning all about this. Any chance you can elaborate on that? Are you referring to the varying levels measured in the used oil analysis? I just assumed it was because of the OCI and/or the durations the oil was in the sump, but I'd love to know more. The first...
Thanks for the info, I appreciate it. I ended up starting to do used oil analysis after reading here on BITOG for years and when the Mazda crossed 60,000 miles I started to wonder if the Mazda Moly oil was the best tool for the job. When we bought the car back in early 2015 people were really...
