Great advice, but I have replaced several breather hoses, and smoke tested to insure no leaks. Porsche includes an AOS (air oil separator) thats built into the driver valve cove, no PCV valve as such, but I checked and replaced the diaphragm for the AOS which usually causes oil consumption...
Yeah, similar to what I have been doing, using 5W50 Mobil 1 in the summer + Liqui Moly Motor Oil Saver.
But after talking to LM they said not to use the oil saver as often as I was (every oil change) rather only every 20,000 miles or 2 years.
I would imagine one should dose similar with AT205...
valve stem seals or PCV, some saying LM Oil Saver, which i have tried and has helped, can help.
reason for me to want to us a High Mileage oil rather than additive that does something similar!
It does not smoke on 1st start after sitting overnight. But after overnight and true cold start it idles high , the air injection pumps are on, and of course its dumping in more gas to light off the converters for a few minutes, so maybe that masks the oil burning?
It smokes only on most...
GI_GRIFF, I did do a dry compression test about 10,000 miles ago, all around 125 and less than +/- 5 psi on the 1 or 2 that deviated.
I didn't know to do wet compression testing, is the logic iif you pour oil in the cylinders and it gets higher then its bad rings, piston wear?
maybe a 4th option?
4. Mobil 1 High Mileage 10w40, with the assumption it has more seal conditioners than normal M1, and the pour point isnt much higher than some euro 5W40's.
I dont know why Im thinking I need a HM, but I guess Ive seen enough comments that it helps with leaks (not sure about...
OK, thanks everyone for the great feedback, I will try:
1. Mobil 1 ESP 0w40 ipo the FS version I had used in the past.
2. Pentosin HPII 5W40 - since it seemed to work best for me before, found a 20L jug on Amazon that makes the price reasonable
3. when I get a nice fat paycheck, Ill try HPL...
Ok, sounds like the immediate plan will be to try Mobil 1 ESP 0w40 for a couple OCI's and top offs along the way.
And forget High Mileage oils it sounds like?
Rather than using Valvoline Restore and Protect to make sure its not a ring issues, I can just run HPL's correct grade Euro oil, from...
Ok!
Well, yes, you are correct, thats why I have been living with it for the past 8 years, 70k, and I have no problem continuing to do so, just looking to try and improve it if I can! the engineer in me wants to do that, lol.
And the consumption was there before the tune, since 40,000 miles...
I tried MOS once, Ceratec around 4 OCI's, didnt seem to make a difference, but I can revisit them.
I was actually starting to think since consuming enough, they were fouling my plugs, and likely where.
Fantastic, I have considered Valvoline Restore and Protect as well, to see if it is due to ring contamination. I did run HPL 40wt cleaner at the correct dosage for 1 OCI, maybe it wasnt enough?
Zero leaks on the ground, knock on wood. And my PCV system is operating as it should, from everting...
kschachn, In my original post, I mentioned I have recently been using Mobil 1 Full Synthetic X2 5W50 (A40 approval, although Im not worried about A40 approval at this point), so trying that, a tiny bit better with it for consumption, nice and quiet and smooth with it.
I really need some advice...
Stock is 450 hp/450 tq, with the FVD tune its 510/524. Stock boost I feel is conservative at 0.6 bar, now its around 1 bar.
Low numbers compared to your fleet, lol.
