    M1 mixing to commence

Holy cow, that brought back some memories. Ahh, to be 16 again.

    M1 mixing to commence

The "0W" simply means that the oil had less than the required viscosity at -40*C to be labeled as a "0W". It infers nothing about the 0*C viscosity. For the complete ranges, see: http://www.tribology-abc.com/abc/viscosity.htm

    Schaeffer's pure synthetics

Well, the straight 30 and 5w30 cost the same. They have the same Flash points, but look at the HT/HS and NOAK: 30: HT/HS=5, NOAK=1.5% 5w30: HT/HS=3.8, NOAK=9% It also has a vis index that rivals many dino 10w30 oils so I know it can handle the TX winter just fine. If ever I was to mail-order...

Baldwin Filter Data - Standard line and HPG

Do you really think your engine will support more than 3gpm flow? If not, then the flow differences between the filters are nil. I'd bet a nickel that at 6000 RPM, the oil flow in 99% of the engines is less than 3 gpm.

    3MP Study?

Just before I was leaving this site today, I thought about the 3MP tests thinking that it was past due for the Amsoil 2k report. I went through the UOAs and didn't find it. I then did a search and found some threads that no longer exist. Are there any new forum rules which forbids posting about...

    How to calculate vis@85C ?

Pick any oil and plug in the Vis@100C and Viscosity index. Then have it calculate the Vis@40C and compare that to the spec sheet.

Cold cranking viscosity VS actual viscosity?

The calculated Vis is Kinematic (mm2/s) @ temp °C, while the other is Cranking (mPa.s)max at temp °C. I guess my question would be how are the two related, if at all?

    76 Lubricants Custom motor oil

Molekule, yes, the question was loaded. Here is my logic as to why I beleive this oil is acceptable for startup in my climate: This oil is thinner than the 15W-X oils all the time (where I live) and I've seen many 15W-X reccomendations on this board for climates that are similar. So I'm going...

    76 Lubricants Custom motor oil

I'm a little dissapointed this thread is not getting much attention. I wonder how many responses I would have gotten if I found a 10w30 dino oil with the same Flash and Zn? I guess many can't get over the "straight" labling. I completely don't understand how a 15W40 can be recommended as much...

    76 Lubricants Custom motor oil

In my search for a dyno oil for my '69 small block chevy, I stumbled on this oil with specs: http://www.76lubricants.com/techdata/crankcase/custom9.pdf What really caught my attention was: Zinc: .138% (Does this mean 1380 ppm?) Flash point: 510F VI: 114 (excellent for a straight weight dino)...

Good oil in a late model oil burner

I disagree with Jelly about using HDMO in a gasser. The HDMO ash levels are typically between 1.3% - 1.5%. The gasser oils are in the .7% - 1.2%. IMHO, that is a big difference for a car that burns oil. I would NOT be concerned if it burned considerably less oil. For instance, let's take...

    RX-8

This thread has taken a big OT turn, but I'll join in anyway. The RX-8 is NOT a replacement for the RX-7. It's a completely different car aimed at a slightly different market, not to mention it is only a fraction of what a '95 RX-7 cost (not even considering inflation). I'd love one, especially...

How can an oil filter affect the oil pres to the engine?

First, all of my opinions are mine and are based on how I think logically. I tend to question a lot with oil filters. This is probably due to the large amount of unknown (unproven, untested, etc) characteristics of oil filters. Bob, I agree that it is possible for flow to be restricted...

How can an oil filter affect the oil pres to the engine?

This has bothered me much with all of the talk about restrictive filters vs. high flow filters. First, I believe we all agree that the oil pump is a positive displacement pump, so it will pump the same amount of oil regardless of the restriction. This oil will go to either: 1) Oil filter 2) Oil...

    Audible vibration from clutch pedal

This is a hydrolic clutch, right? If so, you would not feel anything on the clutch pedal it self. It sounds to me like your TO bearing is making contact with the clutch fingers while the clutch pedal is all the way out. I'd try adjusting the clutch, although some are "self adjusting", but at...
