    2000 Toyota 4runner, 2.7L (3RZ-FE), 310.6k mi; Chevron Supreme 5w-30 synthetic blend 5.2k mi

Yes, I have seen Super Tech all over the Walmart aisles. Have not looked into it at all, (Super Tech UOA postings on this website, chemical properties, etc). True, since the Super Tech synthetic blend is cheap, that is definitely a good candidate for doing a few short oci's. I live in the...

    2000 Toyota 4runner, 2.7L (3RZ-FE), 310.6k mi; Chevron Supreme 5w-30 synthetic blend 5.2k mi

Hmmm, I am not very familiar with Super Tech. Will look into it. The only reason I would run Super Tech would be for saving a few dollars, for these next short oci's. Castrol is thick for its grade, and does not burn easily, like many synthetics I've tried. (This engine in particular does not...

    2000 Toyota 4runner, 2.7L (3RZ-FE), 310.6k mi; Chevron Supreme 5w-30 synthetic blend 5.2k mi

Thanks for the advice. Will shorten up the next few oci's. Probably with the $20 5-quart jugs, of Castrol GTX 10w30 that I find at Walmart, love that stuff.

Yes, they did not do pistons, bearings, lifters, etc. Actually, I should confirm with them. The rebuild was a while ago, (May of 2024). He brought me back, and showed me the old parts. It was cool to see, I just remember seeing my timing chain in there, forgot the other stuff. I've been doing...

Yes, definitely a mistake, smh. And now I know why, every car seems to have a Hot/Cold gauge, it must be important, lol! When I was talking to the mechanic later that day, he said "Never drive a hot car". Whoops. After owning several cars, that was my first, and dramatic experience with a hot...

    2000 Toyota 4runner, 2.7L (3RZ-FE), 310.6k mi; Chevron Supreme 5w-30 synthetic blend 5.2k mi

Thanks for the tip. Yes, that engine had been running on full hot, for 5+ minutes. It was a dramatic death. So basically, coolant may have gotten into places in the engine? This may be "neither here nor there", but after the rebuild, the engine is way stronger. The torque especially. It is a...

    2000 Toyota 4runner, 2.7L (3RZ-FE), 310.6k mi; Chevron Supreme 5w-30 synthetic blend 5.2k mi

My 4runner was still running strong, until 298,425 miles. It had been getting hot, randomly, for a month. (About 80% up on the gauge), and then cooling down. Come to find out, one of the hoses had a hole in it. I couldn't get off work to bring it to a mechanic, which probably did not help. On...

    Castrol GTX 10w-40 - 4,786 miles - 2004 Infiniti G35 sedan 6MT

That is good to hear, your engines seemed to run fine on the 15w-50? I'm probably not gonna put a supercharger/turbo on this, but good to know. Good to see that you were using 5w-40, 0w-40 on your NA VQ's, seem like a solid choices for the DE VQ.

Apparently the HR's don't burn very much. However the DE and especially the DE "Rev-Up" can burn. I'm surprised you haven't heard. There were many complaints and a TSB. Infiniti/Nissan even had some "suspect" dipsticks, where the difference between "Low" and "High" was 2 quarts, instead of 1...

    Castrol GTX 10w-40 - 4,786 miles - 2004 Infiniti G35 sedan 6MT

Appreciate it! As of this writing, 10w-40 is the thickest oil, that I feel comfortable with. The manual for this car states 5w30, 10w30, and 10w40, conventional oil. It also seems like synthetics get eaten up quicker with this motor. The full conventional oils did not consume as much, as the...

    Castrol GTX 10w-40 - 4,786 miles - 2004 Infiniti G35 sedan 6MT

Thanks for the breakdown of what happened with your car. Tales like yours, are very helpful. That is what I was hoping for in this thread, as it can help my situation, and others reading your post, appreciate it!!

Cool, thanks for the input. Wow, will definitely look into dnewton3. The thought of conventional past 10k makes me uneasy, for sure, lol! It is hard to break from old codes that we live by, hehe.

Yes the sump is 5 quarts. Hmmm, do you think a 6k oci is reasonable at this rate? Or even longer? Changing conventional after 5k kinda makes me nervous, (although this is a certain case). The synthetic blends, I change them around 5k as well.

Good stuff. Yea I wish I was an original owner, and it didn't burn any oil, oh well. Mine is a manual and they usually get revved-out, and driven harder than Auto's, and especially the M-series. I definitely like to have "spirited drives" with it, hit backroads, etc. I'm sure the couple...
