    elder law question

Or they could be attempting to keep a loved one from making a series of really poor financial decisions to include spending $750k from 401k's in 5 years and getting a reverse mortgage on a $1 million property all while drawing an $80k/year pension. The bulk of the money went to QVC/HSN. Taxes...

Burned neutral, and possible Tyco Romex splice?

Is the insulation still flexible? If so, and you just have discoloration, I wouldn't bother with anything. Maybe mark the wire with white tape. If you suspect the insulation is damaged, the right fix is to replace the last couple feet. Yes, on a finished ceiling it's tedious. 200W isn't that...

mig welder not laying a bead.

I weld with flux core and a cheapie HF box. I would turn up the wire feed. You need to maintain a pool of molten metal (weld pool). Keep the tip close -- very close. Also, clean the work. The flux core shields but doesn't really clean anything.

Will you teach your kids driving stick?

i learned to drive with a manual transmission. this was in a very rural area. here in the city, with the stop and go and stop and go and stop and go, it would get annoying pretty quick: stop-1-2, stop-1-2, stop-1-2. do i prefer a manual? dont know. i can pretty much make the auto shift the way i...

engine running while getting gas !!!

the biggest danger probably isnt sparking from the engine igniting gas vapors but rather improperly parked idling vehicles. "gee, i thought it was in park".

just when you think you live in a sane area...

well i guess it is good to live in a free country with freedom of speech, but i really dont want to pay for the therapy those kids are going to need later. the store, being a private company, can refuse the right to serve customers as long as it is not denying based on religion, race or sex. i...

    House paint

i have behr and benjamin moore in my bathroom. this is a rather difficult surface for interior paints apparently. both seem to have held up fine. i repainted one of the bathrooms with restoration hardware's paint (the wife liked the color) and it did not get good adhesion to the underlying...

    Best rust desolving product?

you might take a look at por15. they have a fuel tank sealing product (or just plain old por15 would probably work fine). instead of dissolving the rust, you would just seal it.

    How cold is Siberia?

coldest when i was growing up in pa was the negative teens F somewhere. really, it is hard to breathe in anything below 0F. deep breathing is to be strongly avoided. as regards siberian temps, a little bit colder and dry ice wouldnt 'melt'. that would be pretty [censored] strange.

Super efficient electric hot water heaters.

btw, what makes you think you need 60-80A for an electric tankless unit? for the size you need, you would probably need a 20A circuit max.
