    Fram ultra quality control

I recently purchased a Napa Gold filter that had louvers that looked much like the lower picture. I took a dental mirror to look at the bottom facing louvers and was relieved to see they were open. It's on the shelf but I don't know that I'm going to use it. I'm really starting to like the...

    Messiest oil change... ever?

Those are great but unfortunately will not work. This is the drain plug in the plastic oil pans.

    Messiest oil change... ever?

I wondered about the plastic pans. The 2.7L in the 2023 Colorados started with the plastic oil pan. Thankfully they changed it to a metal pan with conventional drain plug. I had to look under mine. Yep, it has the metal pan.

Juan Browne on the AS1282 door loss - thinks it might have been from poor signoff requirements

I saw this earlier. I was a Quality Assurance Inspector for Navy aircraft. I'm amazed this kind of work is leaving Boeing on new aircraft.

CUT OPEN: USED QUAKER STATE QS 8 OIL FILTER

I apologize for the poor photo. Yellow on gold is hard to get and this is probably the best one. I can try tomorrow in daylight. I believe the code is "223 D8 E3 13 17" and then a second line PRODUCT OF USA.

I bought another today and here are a couple of pics. On the shelf for my next oil change.

CUT OPEN: USED QUAKER STATE QS 8 OIL FILTER

Definitely eCore. It kind of surprised me too. It looked pretty much identical to the PF66 other than being gold instead of blue. I should have taken a picture. Next time I go through the local Walmart I'll grab another. Seems like a decent filter. I wonder if it has to do with the application...

E-Core. The PF66 that was on the engine from the factory, the dented PF66 I bought I from Amazon and the Fram Ultra XG12447 I used were all E-Core. I assume made by Champ. The Napa Gold had the crappy louvers.

Thanks! I'll check them out. What are your thoughts on the Champ made E-Core filters? Definitely no restriction in those things, LOL. I noticed the AC Delco PF66 and Fram Ultra Synthetic have gone that route, at least in this application.

I would too. Not a fan of louvers, especially when a bunch of them are closed. I bought a Napa Gold 100351 for my GM 2.7L TurboMax. I didn't use it because it appeared at least half of the louvers were closed or close to it. I'll probably do a C&P on it sometime.

Oil filters at Walmart are getting expensive

This is true. Ordered a PF66 from Amazon a couple of weeks ago. Came in a bag and was dented. They didn't want it back so I did a C&P on it.

GDI Engine Owners - What Oil ?

In my 2.3L and 3.5L EB engines I usually ran M1 5w-30 at around 5k OCIs. I plan on the same with my new GM 2.7L TurboMax.

    Slightly used PF66 from my 23 ZR2

6 qts of QS Full Synthetic 5w-30 with a FRAM Ultra Synthetic XG12447. The XG12447 is ecore and sure looks like a Champ manufactured filter.

    Slightly used PF66 from my 23 ZR2

I typically change the oil on a new engine between 500-1000 miles. This filter came off my 2023 Chevy Colorado ZR2 with the 2.7L Turbo engine at just under 700 miles.
