What causes flat spots in tread of trailer tires

Yes! If on one side, one axle is toed-in and the other toed-out, the net effect is that the forces are balanced out, but both are bad!

What causes flat spots in tread of trailer tires

A dissenting opinion : Sometimes flat spots in the wear pattern are caused by excessive toe. It should not be too difficult to measure the toe. Just run a string from the front tire to the rear tire.

    Michelin Defender Problem

Thanks for reading my stuff. It's why I do it. I owe a lot to the company I retired from and I give them my business, what little of it there is. So I don't have an opinion about brands much other than what I stated in my webpage on tire brands.

    Michelin Defender Problem

Allow me to expand further: X-Ray won't show these bulges as the cord has a very similar density to the surrounding rubber. What X-ray is good at is finding air trapped within the tire, and how well the belts are placed. My guess is that some Michelin plants do sampling, not 100% x-ray...

    Michelin Defender Problem

That's caused by either an impact which broke the ply cords or a slight gap in the ply cords during manufacturing. It might help if you called Michelin's 800 number and tell them about it and suggest they do something appropriate. Be sure to tell them there are no marks on either the tire or...

Tires with really odd tread damage, mainly on the inner half of the tread. Shearing?

Allow me to expand on my answer above: OE tires are generally designed to consume less energy than regular tires. They do that by sacrificing treadwear and/or traction, especially wet traction. That's because the car manufacturers, which write the specs for their tires, don't care about tire...

Tires with really odd tread damage, mainly on the inner half of the tread. Shearing?

I've seen this on a couple of OE tires that were used on a very rough road surface. It's a combination of a marginal tread compound and the rough road surface.

    Post your latest tire purchase

First, a Toyo Open Country AT3 is listed by Tire Rack as an Off Road All Terrain, so I am surprised anyone would think such a tire wouldn't be noisy!

    Tire pressure advice

OK, this was an interesting rabbit hole to go down! The first thing I always do is to verify the original information. I had 2 sources I looked at online and both said the original tire size was an18" in both P metric and LT metric versions. Then I looked at Tire Rack and they said there were...

New Douglas tire at Wally World

Armstrong used to be based in Connecticut, but was purchased by Pirelli in 1988, then by ZAFCO is 2012. ZAFCO is a multinational manufacturer and distributor of tires with plants in Indonesia and Thailand.

Can this tire be patched and other tire questions?

I'm guessing that tread cut and the sidewall bulge are in close proximity to each other. If so, then the cut caused a belt edge separation, which is what the bulge is. It was not caused by running the tire flat! Are you sure your wife hit something? Perhaps she just said that as in: "I...

Calling Capri Racer - inflation pressure on tire size change

Not so much wrong as much as more dangerous. In this case, that would be running the tires 7 psi underinflated!

    NASCAR Bristol Tire Conservation Race

The race referenced in the title had radial tires - with belts. You can tell if the tires are radials when the tires fail, there's a large flap that is created that beats the fenders to pieces! That's the belt! Why the problem at Bristol? I suspect the tires had a tread compound designed to...

    NASCAR Bristol Tire Conservation Race

I thoroughly disagree. 1) The middle of NASCAR races were boring. Adding stages added some spice in the middle. I want NASCAR to keep them even for the road courses! 2) The old way was a point system - and frequently a driver would get enough points that the last 2 races would be...

Calling Capri Racer - inflation pressure on tire size change

First, here's what you need to do this: TirePressure.org: Tire Load Tables A couple of things: It doesn't matter if you're changing from P metric to Eurometric or vice versa - Choose one system. and stick with it. That's because there really isn't a difference between tires designed to one...
