    10w-40 in Jeep 4.0

I have a 2003 Jeep Wrangler 4.0 in Michigan. Since the first oil change I have used Pennzoil Platinum synthetic 10w-30. It does not leak oil, nor use oil. The oil analysis done from time to time is excellent.

    Coolant for 60s muscle car

Yes you have a difficult choice, which I faced myself. After a thorough flush of the block, a new radiator, new thermostat and new hoses, etc., I went with Mopar 68048953 5-year HOAT pink antifreeze/coolant for my 1972 Road Runner and 1986 Omni. That was 10+ years ago and everything is fine...

Chrysler oil spec for 2002 Jeep 4.0 litre

I have the same engine in a 2003 Jeep. The Chrysler specification is MS 6395. Many oils meet this spec. For most temperatures, 10w-30 is the proper oil weight per the chart in the owners manual. 5w-30 for very cold temps. I live where the temperatures are usually 0F to 90F and have always used...

Change from Dexcool OAT to HOAT?

Great. That's exactly the information I need. I'll do my best to flush out the OAT this spring and transition to the blue G48. Then do the same in the fall to make sure all of the OAT is gone. Zerex is easy. Thanks!

Change from Dexcool OAT to HOAT?

Thanks for your specific recommendations. Would any G48 or G05 be acceptable or is there something special about the BMW formulation? I am just thinking about ease of purchase. There are more AutoZones here than BMW dealers, but there is always Amazon.

Change from Dexcool OAT to HOAT?

Thanks again for all of your knowledge about these coolants. After reading your inputs, I guess where I come out is this: Dexcool OAT may need a closed system to work properly, or it may not. The "66 Mustang is an open system so why take a chance? The Dexcool has reacted with some types of...

Change from Dexcool OAT to HOAT?

Air will get into the system every time I check the coolant level. I check all the fluids each time I drive the car so I have to take off the radiator cap to check the level. That air would get into the radiator I assume. There's no other way since there is no overflow bottle and the system is...

Change from Dexcool OAT to HOAT?

Thank you to everyone for your time to reply. As I see, it is a complicated issue with lots of opinions and real world experiences. So my choices seem to be: keep the orange Dexcool, or use Zerex Original Green, Zerex G40 Si-OAT, G-05 HOAT, Prestone Yellow. From the reading I have done, and your...

Change from Dexcool OAT to HOAT?

I had major work done to my 1966 Mustang powertrain; Basically engine rebuild, new radiator, heater core, hoses, etc. The shop filled it with a Dexcool OAT Havoline orange colored coolant when I asked for the IAT older type green. Why did I want the older IAT type? Well I had heard and read a...

    RON Octane Gasoline rating

Thanks for your inputs. As was noted in one post, only the average of R+M is shown on the US gasoline pumps. I did click on the master fuel table link and found that the differences between R and M were from 3 to 15, so quite large differences. Maybe the best thing to do is to experiment. i...

    RON Octane Gasoline rating

The 1966 Mustang owners manual says that the fuel should be 91 RON octane "Regular" fuel for the 2V carburetor and 99 RON octane "Premium" fuel for the 4V. About what are those ratings using today's R+M calculations? I know that the "Motor" rating is lower than the RON, so I am thinking that any...

    Driven motor oil

I have had several engines rebuilt over the past couple of years. One on the east cost, one in Arizona and one in Michigan. All three recommended Joe Gibbs Driven motor oil for use in the engines. They also "like" Brad Penn. I have gone with their recommendations and I have had no problems...

    Yet Another Zinc Oil Question

It's the same cast of characters over and over: Shell Rotella T4 which the Shell tech line will tell you is THE oil to use in flat tappet engines no matter that it does not have an "S" rating. PennGrade partial synthetic, Valvoline VR1, Joe Gibbs all recommended by the three engine different...

    1986 Dodge Power Steering Fluid

My low mileage 1986 Dodge Omni uses the amber color power steering fluid. The old bottle I have from 1992 has the part number 4318055. This met Chrysler spec MS 1872. It is no longer made. The owners manual and the service manual specifically say not to use automatic transmission fluid otherwise...

Shell Nitro+ Gasoline in older cars

Hagerty has a video on their website with two Shell engineers. They said that the new formulation of the Shell Nitro+ gasoline premium was especially formulated with older carburetor engines in mind. They said that the fuel has a special formula that would coat the older plastic and rubber parts...
