Vehicle you're looking forward to in 2025 (and beyond)

Commuter rail would be my first choice honestly. The traffic is too heavy everywhere to enjoy driving anyway.

The new 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe is the bomb

I like the way it looks. Kinda like a big Scion xB. As far as reliability, who knows. There are lemons of every make and model. Case in point: My 2021 F150 is in the shop for its 5th recall at 42,000 miles - this time, they are replacing both rear axles and hub assemblies as an "interim...

    Front wheel bearing replacement

Possibly the axle nut will pull it into place, but personally I'd put it back in the press.

Let's see the front view though 😉

How many of you check TIR & DTV on new rotors?

TIR and DTV? I guess I'm just some kind of yokel. Never even seen these acronyms before. Certainly never measured them. I always just relied on my foot on the test drive and bedding of pads. If it bumps or thumps then "ya gotta bad rotah".

Discount Tire Direct becomes Tire Rack?

Interesting to hear the different perspectives. We have no DT in the Northeast but Tire Rack has been a trusted vendor for decades and has a terrific website. Two great family -owned companies are merging. Let's hope they keep the best of both. It is possible as long as private equity doesn't...

The Solar Eclipse & The Path to Totality

Thank you for working today. My family and I appreciated the police presence and had no difficulty with traffic or otherwise. Drove from Burlington out to Johnson on 15. Was that you? Nice! That red prominence was clearly visible as were two planets.

Dave’s auto Center interview with Lake Speed Jr

Are we supposed to know who either of these people are?

The Solar Eclipse & The Path to Totality

I don't know anybody who's panicking. As far as making money, it's no different from any other large event. Hotels and restaurants want to cash in, often in places that don't see much tourism. It's just a cool scientific phenomenon instead of a game or concert.

Audi/VW pinch bolts for upper control arm.

We used to use an acetylene torch to cut the pinch arms on early-2000s Audis because the head would often snap off the bolt no matter what we tried. We would always quote and stock all the arms just in case, then come in under budget if it went well. Also rust belt. Maybe the materials are...

    Where do you grocery shop?

What is this "green grocer" you both speak of? I've heard the term but to my knowledge have never seen one. I tried googling Green Barn but the results didn't seem relevant.

Is 17ft lbs too much for a 5/16" diameter bolt?

Why not upgrade to grade 8 bolts and torque to 17?

It's not the boards, it's the manure.

    Hood latch grease

First, are you sure it's the latch, not the cable? Assuming it's the latch, it seems none of WD-40, chain lube, PTFE, and spray grease (plain or lithium) will serve the purpose. I'm calling in the cavalry. Since this is a case of cold, metal on metal friction under pressure (see the...
