If i had a trusty 29 year old washer I would take 30 minutes to replace the $75.00 water pump rather than replace the washer with a new one.

I've been using this in my 2005 Mercury 40 hp 3 cylinder engine for years. The engine still runs strong on my 13' Boston Whaler so I guess it's okay. Get it at WalMart.

There was no response to this question by the OP. If the engine ran fine before he serviced it, he just put too much oil in it. If it had all these issues before it was serviced, I guess changing the oil and filters probably didn't hurt anything.
