Gah, I wish I'd seen this thread earlier--I just wasted a trip to Pep Boys to pick up some more G-05. I stopped by the nearest NAPA and they didn't carry it, either. I know the local AutoZone and Kragen don't carry it, either. It looks like it's getting pretty hard to find this stuff!
I dunno, Mola! The owner's manual specifies 10W-60, and KTM strongly recommends (but doesn't require) this specific Motorex oil to protect the unspecified engine coatings.
We'll see if the problem is fuel dilute, mechanical viscosity shear, or some other issue. Husqvarna's new thumper engine...

Yep, there's a dial under the seat with positions for poor quality fuel, reduced power, standard, and advanced. Standard and advanced make the same maximum power, but the transition between on- and off-throttle's a lot...
This oil was developed in conjunction with KTM and is strongly endorsed by KTM as the oil to use in the new 690 models (Enduro, SMC). Very, very different chemistry (check out the high glycol reading) with an add pack that looks like a diesel oil. Right out of the bottle it doesn't measure as a...

hows the Fi?
There's very, very little vibration. It's not quite as smooth as an inline four, but I'd say it feels as smooth as the inline...
sunruh's found that Walmart's SuperTech 15W-40 holds its viscosity even better than Rotella; that might be worth trying. Otherwise, if you really want good viscosity holding power you'll need to switch to a straight-weight (SAE 40). Oil that falls down into the 30-weight range doesn't provide...

Unfortunately I don't have a virgin sample of the oil, so who knows what the delta...

Umm, OK, whatever.

I'm running conventional Shell 20W-50 for the current...
Yeah, the flash is low because of the fuel dilute. Probably (hopefully) from before the rings got fully seated. If not, the design might dump a lot of fuel into the oil and that could be the motivation behind the 60-weight recommendation. Reminds me of a certain high-powered German automobile...
The motor is a 654cc fuel injected, liquid-cooled, single cylinder, four-stroke design with an 11.8:1 compression ratio, four-valve overhead cam with roller rocker levers producing 62 peak HP. It has a shared sump lubrication system shared with the six-speed transmission and uses two Eaton pumps...
Geez, sorry I stepped out for a bit and missed all the fun!
As for the LC levels, those are the recommended levels from Terry: 2 oz per quart at the initial fill (so 5 oz. total), plus another two ounces every 1,000 miles.
I did do some runs on both the Rotella 5W-40 and the 15W-40; I'm pretty...
So I have the itch for a new motorcycle and have been looking at the KTM 690 Enduro and the Husqvarna TE610. I was a little surprised to discover that both require 10W-60 motor oil. They're both liquid-cooled, so does anyone know what the deal is--why do they spec such a thick oil?
Yeah, not bad, but not great, either. I think the big learning is that Red Line, in this application, isn't worth the price premium. I'll stick with Rotella and change it every 2K miles.
