If you knew then ..what you know now ......

Wayne: the engine seized prematurely at 100K-clogged oil passages. I did not have a tear-down done but it had to be the PTFE in the filter. These engines do not just crap out like that, and it got regular 3K oil changes and was well-maintained.

If you knew then ..what you know now ......

Not exactly Slick 50, but close enough. I would never have used a Fram DoubleGard (with PTFE) on a 93 Accord. Very expensive lesson

    Mixologists-opinions please

Teenage son drives 93 Honda Accord with 145K miles. Mixed highway and city driving, 3-4K OCI's. I have used and been happy with Pennzoil HM 5W-30 (10W in summer). Motor does not leak or consume oil. Would there be a benefit, however small, of using 1 qt Pennzoil Platinum synthetic with 3 qts HM...

Stop Leak Additives - Any good ones?

SR77: I have used Bar's Stop Leak (for engine oil) with success in a GM 3600 engine. Leaks were not completely stopped, but slowed a lot. FYI, this motor did not start leaking badly until after an Auto-RX cycle (which was done per instructions) at 135K miles. I've used Bar's only once, and...

Did high mileage oil cure YOUR leak?

I have used Pennzoil HM with very good results in two vehicles: 90 Camry (5W-30) and 92 Transport (10w-30 and 40). In addition, Bar's makes a Stop Leak product for engine oil that I have used with great success in the Transport.

Who's brave enough to try Slick 50?

acewiza, there is enough PTFE in the Doublegard filter to do real damage. I used one for one OCI on a 93 Accord. Aside from this one slip-up, the car was meticulously maintained (3,000 mi. intervals). At 100,000 miles (2 or 3 OCI's later) the engine croaked. Clogged oil passages.

Oil Related Failure at less than 150k Miles

I've posted this sad story in other threads: 93 Accord engine seized up at 100K. Not strictly an oil related failure, as it almost certainly was due to the Fram DoubleGard filter (with PTFE) I used for one OCI. As if anyone needed another reason to avoid Fram...

    Who has used Slick50?

How about a horror story involving both Slick 50 AND Fram filters. Namely, the Fram Double Gard with PTFE pre-added. I used this filter (pre-BITOG days) for one OCI on a 93 Accord with about 80K miles at the time. Car was otherwise well-maintained with 3-4K dino OCI's (mostly Castrol or Pennz...

High mileage oil? and rear main ? replacement

Can't answer your question, but thought I would pass this along. I have had great success with Bar's Stop Leak in a 92 GM 3800 V6 motor with a rear main seal leak. Maybe worth a try before you resort to the major repair.

    Which oil for older cars?

I am a believer in Pennzoil HM oils. Have used them successfully in two older cars to cure minor oil leaks and blue smoke from exhaust.

oil leak cure - HM oil vs Stop Leak Additive

After about 3 weeks I am very impressed with Bar Stop Leak. Leaks have slowed considerably and no longer produce smoke from under the hood after the engine has run a bit. Happy camper with this, so far.

    Oil Leak Stop Additive?

I have had excellent results with Bar Products Stop Leak and Conditioner on a 93 GM 3800 engine with several moderate leaks (138K mi.).

oil leak cure - HM oil vs Stop Leak Additive

vet, I've had very good success with Pennzoil HM oil, 10W-30, in a 90 Camry 4 cyl. That said, I am trying the Bar's additive in a 12 year-old GM 3800 V6 with multiple leaks. Too soon to know for sure but seems to be helping.

2005 Honda Accord Owners Outside the U.S.- Oil Spec?

Thanks for the info, guys. I plan to stay with 5W-20 for the warranty period, either dino for 5,000 mi OCI or syn for 10,000 mi. OCI. Leaning toward the syn. Then will probably go 5W-30 after warranty.

2005 Honda Accord Owners Outside the U.S.- Oil Spec?

As we know, the 2005 Honda Accord 2.4L owners' manual for the U.S. specs 5W-20, with no mention of other acceptable grades/viscosities. I am curious about the spec for this very same engine in 2005 Accords sold in foreign countries. Please respond if you have solid documentation in this regard...
