When to wax a new car?

    Measuring Tread Depth

The most charitable thing I could say is that they were misguided. I"ll leave it at that.

    Measuring Tread Depth

My issue is that they were measuring it wrong, whatever the motivation may have been. How to properly measure the remaining tread is a separate issue from when a tire should be replaced. Maybe you like others making your decisions for you. I don't.

    Measuring Tread Depth

Research Results I was hoping to find a definite answer either from a tire manufacture or from a government source. When could not, I inquired of the California Bureau of Automotive Repair, and obtained a definite answer for California. It is in the California Vehicle Code. Section 27465. It...

    Measuring Tread Depth

This is a question for anyone actively involved in the tire industry. Has there been a change over the last few years on how to measure tread depth? I ask because a service manager and one of his technicians told me today that the correct way to measure tread depth is from the top of the...

    Magnefine Transmission Filter

I'm looking for some insight about these in-line filters. I have seen these filters installed, especially after transmission repairs so I'm somewhat familiar with them. I have heard recently that they are intended to be disassembled and cleaned rather than replaced, as shown with the...

Which Syn GL-5 for MT Where Front Diff Shares Oil?

For the transaxle, you want a GL5 that is specifically blended for MANUAL TRANS use. The front trans final drive is not a hypoid gear so the need for an oil that is specifically blended for them. For the rear, use a GL5 is is specifically blended for differentials.

    Storing truck...change out oil?

I vote for the fresh oil. I do agree that today's cars and today's oils make it less critical. I also vote for a full tank of gas. The less air in the tank, the less trouble with condensation. Stabil would not hurt, but that is a short enough time that I don't think it is really needed. I...
