Best gloves for working on cars

Cutproof gloves are a thing and can be very useful in tight places for keeping your skin intact. They won't protect your hand from being crushed, though. I try to keep an open palm on the wrench handle if I'm breaking stuff loose. I find that slapping concrete/steel is less painful than punching...

D2S HID bulb: Philips ($120) or Osram ($138) or Cheap off brand ($19)?

I have one of these in the X5. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07F6Y3QYF/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Replaced an Osram unit that shattered while in use. Have had it in the driver's side light for more than a year and have been pleased with its output. I'm usually one to...

    Bought the wife Bimmer

N62s are pretty decent. There are 2 big jobs to mentally prepare yourself for in the coolant transfer pipe and the alternator bracket gasket. 5 N62 powered X5s in the family, none of them have needed valve stem seals yet (knock on wood). Gotta admit, the Bangle- era 6 looks pretty good now; it's...

    Need advice on Kia Sorento

Seems I'm in the minority, but I'd probably take a stab at owning this at that price if I was in the market for a 3 row SUV. $6500 price point on an SUV, your other options are going to be much older and likely have some age-related issues. Any Pilot or Highlander at that price is going to be...

Toyota dominates study of longest lasting vehicles including full size pickups

    Should I change it??

Assuming we're discussing ATF- yes, change it. It's unlikely to have worn to the point of slipping with that mileage, especially since you're well within spec for fluid change. Drain and fill, do not flush.

    Amazon Packaging

Packagers at Amazon fulfillment centers have to pack X number of boxes per hour- typically a pace that pushes the limit of human abilities. I'm guessing if they grab the wrong sized box, they just send it instead of wasting precious seconds grabbing a more appropriate size.

Anybody shop at an Aldi supermarket?

90% of my food comes from ALDI. Personally, I enjoy going there knowing that whatever I buy is a decent price. Sure, shopping sales at traditional grocers might save a few cents here and there, but sometimes you need something now. Certainly beats waiting a week or two for the next ad to come...

04 Saturn Ion, ?? miles, Worst UOA I have seen.

If it hasn't started slipping after the 2 drain and fills, it almost certainly won't after this one. FWIW, the X5 in my sig had similar shifting symptoms. If it's easy to pull the pan and change shift solenoids, it may be worth doing. With that level of neglect, there's a solid chance a...

Any harm in using 0w20 in a Kia that specifies 5w20?

Personally, I'm wating until after the warranty is up to run 0w20. Kia dealers are pretty notoriously terrible about warranty claims- not that I think I'll ever need to make a claim. Yes, you can fight them and probably win, but I'm for just using whatever the manufaturer recommends and avoiding...

Would I buy a GM car? No. But GM stock?

Meh to the cars and the stock right now. That said, would have been cool to scoop a bunch of stock up during the last crash. Decent returns there.

Valvoline Premium Blue Restore 10W-30 in a Honda 2.4L

I'll be following this thread closely. My Accord was buring a quart every 3k for a little while (had seen conventional dealer fill it's whole life prior to me). With a few 7-10k intervals on M1 EP 0w20 (and a bunch of M1 HM 10w40 makeup oil), it slowed down. Finally thought to change the PCV...

Are Theta II engines really as bad as their reputation?

My 2012 Forte (Korean build, no DI) is doing fine so far. No signs of issues at 50k. That said, I see them on Craiglist with rod knocks or dead engines around 100k with some regularity. Whether that's because of faulty design or faulty owners? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
