Cut & Paste from Excel Test

Knocking off one or two decimal points would make it fit better as it's not as if quoting viscosity to two decimal places has any useful meaning as far as the comparison is concerned. Turning the problem around. I always fail to copy tabulated data from a web page directly into Excel but it...

They don't lock their bikes in Japan.

The penal code in Tunisia is fairly severe but they certainly don't cut hands off, you'd need to go to Iran and perhaps only one or two other countries that have a very strict Islamic code for that to happen. My impression of Tunisian people was they were fundamentally honest and not honest out...

They don't lock their bikes in Japan.

Earlier this year we had a holiday in Tunisa on the North African coast. On an organised motor scooter tour I asked the tour leader if we should lock the scooters when parked. He said leave the key in the ignition and I assure you no one will touch it while we are away. He was right and this in...

Low Profile Tires - Not For Me

What's surprising is the silly fashion for ultra low profile tyres on big wheels is being carried over to EV's. Off hand the only EV I can think of with designed fit for purpose wheels is the original BMW i3 which had large diameter narrow tyres to minimise rolling resistance, wind resistance...

Alex Marquez racing accident; motorcycle damage extreme

The bike in front of Marquez suffered a sudden power loss and they were riding so close, as they do, that Marquez ran into the back of him. Racers place tremendous faith in other competitors, can you imaging driving at 150mph only a few feet from the vehicle in front.

Most braking done by the front wheels?

It's true more braking capability is available for the front wheels but It depends on the degree of weight transfer so the figure will vary quite a bit depending on how hard the brakes are applied.

I think the economy needs a recession

Gasoline prices would have to go very much higher to curb peoples driving. In the UK prices are double what you pay and still I see no evidence of people driving less or driving slower which suggests lots of drivers don't seem to care what it costs. The worst aspect of fuel prices rising is...

Car/Motorcycle Accident in Vancouver, BC - Cycle Ends Up on Traffic Light Stanchion

A stoppie is the result of good brakes - obviously but also a function of centre of gravity and wheelbase. That's why a sports bike with light weight, a relatively high and forward centre of gravity and a shortish wheelbase will do one easily enough and a big cruiser like a Harley won't.

    California’s proposed new tire regulations.

Based on the similar European tyre labelling for rolling resistance the savings are real and worthwhile but you have a point about the low hanging fruit. In the real world of normal car tyres you can't buy the worst ones graded F and G in the table so no one is going to save 7.8% on their fuel...

Accord or RX350 ... Which car would you sell?

Unless you drive in nose to tail traffic queues, keep the Honda. Being 54 is no bar to enjoying a good manual transmission I'm 71 and still enjoy a manual.

    2027 VW ID Polo

Only a few years ago it was much more expensive to hire an auto vs a manual but it's changing rapidly. Over 50% of new car sales in Europe are now auto and a large percentage of those autos will be sold to hire companies because auto's will be easier to sell when the time comes. I think the...

Car/Motorcycle Accident in Vancouver, BC - Cycle Ends Up on Traffic Light Stanchion

I was puzzled by the lack of obvious front end damage but I don't think that indicates a low impact speed. What I think may have happened is that because he was doing a stoppie the bike continues to rotate, rolls over the car and launches into the air. Had he stopped dead on impact there...

Car/Motorcycle Accident in Vancouver, BC - Cycle Ends Up on Traffic Light Stanchion

Bikes were going far too fast. It takes a lot of kinetic energy to launch a bike that distance and that high into the air. Car mostly at fault though. Classic motorcycle accident in that respect. Car drivers do not see you. I've just had a motorcycle accident at 15 mph I'm passing a side...

Dumb problem all sites want both 2 factor and email recovery codes

Serious question for the experts about Brute force attack - and I'm not suggesting we rely on passwords without 2FA Is that a real risk these days given every web site I login to will freeze the account after a small number of failed attempts. If this is the case in general why are people still...

    Panel Gap and Build Quality

1mm sounds near impossible, I will have a look at the gaps on some newer VW's to see if they are better thane mine. I measured the gaps on my 2019 Golf at 3mm and a consistent 3mm still looks very good. The gaps on my 2009 Mercedes were bigger and on my 1989 Mercedes bigger still.
