    Briggs 492932S - cut open

The Briggs filter off my John Deere zero turn with an Intek engine. 460 hours on the engine with about 40 on the filter. Not sure who makes the filter and didn't see a date code or country of origin. Looks fine to me, I replaced it with another 492932S. I bought 4 of these filters some years...

Purolator One PL10241 - cut open

Yea, the wavy pleats are throwing me for a loop, haven't seen that before. Otherwise it looked ok -- no cuts or tears in the media, the louvers were good.

    Green Grease compatibility

Thanks! I read that data sheet a couple of times and totally missed that line 🤪

    Green Grease compatibility

Does anyone know what the base of Green Grease is? The website is horrible. I found this Data Sheet in a search and it says 'Mixed Complex' but I'm not sure what that is. I used this stuff in a lawn mower spindle when I didn't have anything else and am now looking for something compatible, not...

About GL4 and GL5 gear oil

Thanks for the help. I checked a repair manual that has a tear down of the transfer case. It doesn't say whether the sycro is steel or brass but does mention a bronze plug inside. But I guess that's considered a red metal. Confusing the matter further it simply recommends a 90W gear oil without...

About GL4 and GL5 gear oil

I think it's the original fill but can't be 100% certain, it only has around 65k miles. I can't quite tell if the leak is coming from a seal or gasket, that why I want to top it off and monitor it. So it has nothing to do with metal corrosion, in that case any GL5 would be suitable?

About GL4 and GL5 gear oil

I've been doing maintenance work on my '02 Kia recently and noticed a leak in the transfer case. I can't tell yet if it's a seal or is just seeping from somewhere. Doesn't get a lot of miles so I'm going to top it off an keep and eye on it and see how much it leaks. The manual specifically...

    Kia ATF/PSF compatibility

I contacted Valvoline and they confirmed that it is a Dexron III even saying Dex/Merc is fine. I don't remember the prices, if MaxLife is only a few bucks more for a gallon I'll probably go with that, otherwise I'll look for another brand name Dex/Merc on sale. Quote: Thank you for contacting...

    Kia ATF/PSF compatibility

Ok, thanks for the replies, I'll go with Maxlife. If PSF-III is just Dexron III, I wonder why they didn't just spec one fluid all the way around?

    Kia ATF/PSF compatibility

I have a question about Kia ATF & PSF. The transmission calls for M-III or Dexron-IIE and the power steering is PSF-III. Is PSF-III just Dexron III? Would any modern 'Dex/Merc' fluid work for both applications?

Purolator Classic L14610, 5825 miles – CUT OPEN

I cut open a Purolator Classic L14610 that was on my Kia and has 5825 miles running Mobil Super 5000 10W30 oil over about 2 years. Not sure how to interpret the manufacture code. The pleats were tight all the way around except near the crimp. I couldn't see any tears anywhere. The black rubber...
