    1998 Cat C-12 reman

Most recent sample reports. I'm still experiencing high oil consumption, 11.5 quarts in almost 20k miles. Could it be hot ambient temperature with 10w-30? I just changed the oil yesterday, switched to Schaeffer 15w-40 for the rest of the summer. I've heard from other owner-operators that also...

    1998 Cat C-12 reman

I'm hoping the Cu is just break-in material from thrust bearings, lifter rollers, and oil cooler being new and not from things coming apart. I replaced the oil cooler on the previous engine because of coolant in the oil and after I did that the coolant went down but also started showing Cu, they...

    1998 Cat C-12 reman

These are the first samples of my new reman C-12 long block. Both samples were taken at the same time with the same vacuum line that's included in the Cat fluid sample kit.

    Oil filter micron vs flow

This engine was remanufactured by Caterpillar. This is not an in-frame overhaul, this is a completely different engine. Would that make a difference?

    Oil filter micron vs flow

Thanks for the advice everyone. An early oil sample does indeed sound like a good idea. Would it also be advisable to change the oil and filter at the time of the sample of 5k or sooner?

Cat C-12 reman long block oil

I just bought it about six months ago and pulled food grade tanker with it and got over 7 mpg. I was told by the previous owner that he never really had any problems with it and it always got great fuel economy. I went with a long block because it needed rods and main bearings, a cam, cam...

Cat C-12 reman long block oil

The engine had a little over 1.6 mil miles. One in-frame after it blew a head gasket. An in-frame would have been preferable, unfortunately Caterpillar doesn't make a kit for my serial number.

    Oil filter micron vs flow

I'm getting a remanufactured Cat C-12 put in my semi truck and the filter Cat calls for is 1R-0716. Cat doesn't publish filter specs anymore and this filter is listed as "standard efficiency", it crosses to a Donaldson P554005 and is listed as 40u absolute. On the previous engine I used a Cat...

Cat C-12 reman long block oil

I'm getting a remanufactured long block in my semi truck and was looking for some advice for oil selection. I like 10w-30 and it is an approved grade in the Caterpillar OMM published in 1997. There are no Cat ecf requirements listed in the manual, only CH4 or CI4 I think. I like the cold flow of...

    Oil filter life

Can the same be said in regards to the filters on a Detroit 60 series? These filters on the big trucks are located on the passenger side of the block, straight vertical with the o-ring facing upward. I was just informed earlier today that EcoPure recommends a 25k mi interval for any full flow...

    Oil filter life

Long time listener, first time caller. Jumping right in. I am curious how to tell where a filter is at in it's useful life. I change oil on a few semi trucks as well as my own person pickup and I noticed when I pull the filters off these trucks that have been sitting for a while, the filter is...
