I just sold a 2011 Tucson with 238k and my son drives a 2013 with 115k on the clock. In my opinion the transmissions in these vehicles are pretty reliable. I would do 3 drain and fills and see if it takes care of the problem. Asin SP4 is around 8 bucks a quart. I did the first drain and fill on...
Following up to give the final verdict on the B12 piston soak. Changed the oil today at 5,040 miles. The level on the dipstick pre change was right where it was at the start of this OCI. From a quart every 1000 miles to no usage is a big win. Hopefully by using VRP the piston rings will stay...
I like it !! I wonder if one of the coilover manufacturers would make you a custom set. Probably a lot of cash for a one off but unlimited adjustability.
Both have had the knock sensor update. The 13 was replaced under warranty. The 11 has aged out due to mileage. These two only received 15year/150k warranty.
I have a 2013 Tucson with Theta II MPI that developed a rod knock around 100k. New motor. I also have a 2011 with the same original motor and 236k. Go figure.
Had a variation of those pedals on my BMX race bike. We would file the cleats into points. If you slipped a pedal during a race, you were going to bleed. Good times.
Just an update on our 19' Hyundai. I am at 3400 miles on this OCI since the piston ring cleaning. The oil level on the dip stick has not moved. I'm planning on using VRP again at the 5000 mile oil change.
Find a different dealer. I do all the maintenance on our 3 Hyundai's. I keep all the filter receipts from the dealer and oil receipts as well. When my 2013 succumbed to a rod knock the dealer didn't even ask for them. They pulled the valve cover and said it was good to go for a new engine.
2008 Rav4 3.5 v6. 244k. Dealer bulk oil and Castrol Edge for the last 40k. Uses no noticeable oil in 5k intervals. 5w30.
2011 Hyundai Tucson. 236k. Bought it with 19k. PP and Edge 5w30 to now. Uses 1 qt between 5k intervals.
I read a lot of online posts about how people did the process. I also read the Hyundai TSB. This is what I did.
1- Removed the Fuel pump fuse.
2- Removed the spark plugs and disconnected the power from the high pressure fuel pump.
3- Used a plastic syringe and poured 50cc of Berrymans in each...

I started a thread about this a few days ago. The VRP did not work as I had hoped. Maybe another 5k with VRP would have helped but I'm not so sure. The motor now as almost 2k miles since the Berryman cleaning and the oil...
Actually, if you read the Tucson manual 5w-20 is recommended but 5w-30 is acceptable to use. Gotta look past the oil filler cap. I also skipped the Hyundai recommended 7.5k oil change interval as well.
It seems they are prone to sticking the rings even with good oil. Would a better oil like HPL or the likes helped from the beginning? I don't know. When you remove the spark plugs take note of the condition. I could see that cylinders 2 and 4 were the ones burning oil. Maybe those cylinders run...
