    Subaru Outback Losing Coolant

Porcupine73 has it right, there a couple of model year Outbacks with known head gasket/coolant leak issues. My wife had one, not sure what year it was, 200x. Head gasket replacement is the fix.

    2.7 liter 911

Hi - been a member for quite a while, but haven't posted lately. I thought I'd come up with some threads on this question, but I guess I didn't search correctly - I'm deciding what oil to use in an air-cooled 911 engine, it's built to '73 2.7 liter Carrera specs from an original '71 engine. It...

Oil Related Failures? Anyone Know of Any?

Well, many years ago I was working at a high-end car dealer, and one of the techs forgot to add oil back in during an oil change. It happened to be the car's first service - 600 miles at that time. He got a short ways down the road during the road test and the engine said, loudly, "I don't think...

    New Car Story

I wouldn't take this as a negative sign about the car's quality at all - it's a minor mechanical issue, despite its effect on being able to drive the car. Stuff happens. I'd conclude it's a quality dealer, though.

    the best V-6 engines ever?

Well, I like the twin-turbo V6 in my S4 a whole lot. 30 valves, variable intake timing, etc. Also, the Nissan V6 engines are great. Beyond that, the I-6 used in the M3 cars is (was) a great engine, and also the 3.2 and 3.6 air-cooled Porsche flat 6s.

    Brake job every 5k...

Seems to be an issue with Subarus, I don't know why. My wife's '01 Outback did it, it would start happening some time after replacement of pads or both pads and rotors, during the whole 120k miles she had it. And yes, she's an excellent driver, easy on the brakes, no problems with any of her...

    driving shoes

John Browning hit it - wrestling shoes. 10 years ago my wife bought me a pair of well-regarded racing shoes, but the sole, while thin, was stiff. By luck I ran across some wrestling shoes at a place going out of business - bought two pair for about $10, and the first pair are still fine after...

    You all were right! :(

Coffee, all I read was your topic, didn't have time to read the actual message. But, based only on that, you're clearly right...

    Subaru is making Camry

CBD, selling prices are lower than sticker prices on these cars. My wife is replacing her '01 Outback Limited wagon (120k miles) with a new one and emailed all the local dealers asking for their best price on a particular car. (didn't have to drive one, she already had. Simple transaction). She...

    charcoal canister line

For the life of me I couldn't figure out where the line into my carb came from. Wow, long way from Oneida to here, dunno how they did it.

1970 Volvo recommended 6,000 mile oil changes

Nice car. Just by coincidence I was talking today, for the first time, with a long-time local Volvo specialist. I asked if he's do some work on my wife's spare car, a '93 240 wagon, too good to let go when she got a new car. "How many miles?" "200k" "So not broken in yet, huh?"

    Digital odometers rant

Quattro Pete, mine looks about the same, except 60k is just a memory - just turned 90k. Can't see your tach, but I hope your engine wasn't running, with all those symbols lit up... My understanding is that digital odos were adapted partly because they're (supposedly) more difficult to roll...

    Coolant temp stays low...

Here's one possibility out of left field - I'd guess your PT has an electric cooling fan? If it's running when it's not supposed to your temp - especially in Michigan in winter - won't come up. Not too likely the problem, but easy to check. A bad temp sensor, wire short, or possibly bad air...
