Will this stuff seal a gas tank leak?

The fun part of fuel today is the added ethanol. Long-term, that ethanol will eat into JB Weld and any other epoxy. Every JB Weld product contains the same epoxy base, be it the standard two-tube goop or a stick product, like SteelStik. That Permatex aviation gasket maker dissolves easily in...

Preferred gear oil for super 8.8 rear end.

I will only recommend Redline gear oils.

Does anyone make 100% stainless steel band clamps?

Been there. It's stupid, but there it is. On mine, I replaced the non-stainless bolts with stainless ones, but the bar in the middle is not so easy to replace. Mine are all balls of rust now, but at least I can get the bolts loose.

    Fuel sending unit sealant

Viton is good. Good luck with the Seal-All. If it fails, go with the Permatex PermaShield linked above. PermaShield is definitely immune to gasoline + ethanol.

    Control arm{s} "compliance bushings"

It's a standard term for a (generally) rubber bushing that twists and flexes in use. Compare to polyurethane "bushings" which are really bearings because two surfaces slide on each other. There's no sliding in a compliance bushing.

    Any 7M owners out there?

I've owned my '88 GE for 31 years now and have been through many different oils. I used to run some quite thick, but no more. The 7MGTE is known for low oil pressure, especially at idle, but the GE has none of that equipment to cause that. The GE has tighter bearing clearances than the GTE, no...

Has anyone here owned just American vehicles or foreign vehicles?

First car: 1974 SAAB Sonett III Second car: 1988 Toyota Supra Third car: 2004 Nissan 350Z I still have (and drive regularly) the Supra and 350Z. I know I'm weird.

    parts source

Summit Racing is a solid retailer. There's no way I will ever buy car parts from Amazon, especially with their hopeless counterfeit problem.

    Adding Magnet to Differential Plug

Wow, that's unique! You should be able to find a disc-shaped magnet that fits nicely in the cup. Hopefully the plug is steel so the magnet sticks to it on its own, but I'd still add some JB Weld. Clean everything thoroughly before epoxying and then let the epoxy cure for several days before you...

    Adding Magnet to Differential Plug

What size is the plug? You can also get round magnets with a hole in the middle. Drill and tap the plug for a machine screw to hold the magnet on. I definitely suggest adhesive or screws to hold the magnet to the plug.

    Adding Magnet to Differential Plug

You can probably buy a plug with a magnet already attached that fits. Just watch the clearance inside. Similarly, my 350Z transmission plugs did not have magnets originally. The plugs have a convenient cup on them and I found a hemispherical magnet that fit perfectly. The plug is steel, so the...

    Whole house gen OC

My 10-year-old 8kW Generac hooked up to utility gas runs for 12 minutes once a week. The only setting I have is when to run the test. Yes, I wish I could set it to run longer. I've gone to changing only the oil every 2 years, as it tends to have little time on the clock, but there's not much...

Is polyamide a good material for sway bar bushings?

Reuse the metal strap the holds the bushing to the car that you already have. Buy a new polyurethane bushing with the right size hole for the bar that's not too far from what you need, then work on it with a coarse file until it fits. I see options for the 2007+ Evo 10, so maybe they're close...

Is polyamide a good material for sway bar bushings?

Nope. Polyurethane is the best material for several reasons: it can take the abuse of flexing, it doesn't suck up water like polyamide, and you can get it in many durometers. For sway bars, 70A or 80A is good. You can machine it just fine with sharp bits and appropriate feeds and speeds. What...
