350 vortec lifters (and other maintanence items)

As an update to anybody that finds this thread I ended up not replacing the lifters and the factory lifters are completely silent so I'm glad I didn't go to the extra effort and expense of replacing them. I did end-up replacing the intake manifold (with the dorman part), intake gasket (with the...

350 vortec lifters (and other maintanence items)

UPDATE: over the weekend I've got the old intake manifold off and the leak that I was seeing is definitely coming from the lower intake manifold gasket. The entire gasket came out in one piece except right around the water feed on the front passenger side. The lower intake manifold also has a...

350 vortec lifters (and other maintanence items)

Thanks a lot for all of your guys suggestions. Based off what you've said and the fact that it doesn't appear the lifters in these engines typically give problems I'll probably hold off for now and make sure everything runs ok after replacing the intake gasket (I'm still going to do cap, rotor...

350 vortec lifters (and other maintanence items)

Thanks for all the advice guys. I really think the engine is ok, it barely overheated (like only about 3/4 of the way up the gauge and no boiling over. The previous owner is a trusted friend so he'd have no reason to lie to me! He said he never noticed any change in the way the engine was...

350 vortec lifters (and other maintanence items)

HI Everybody, I just picked up a 99 suburban with 202k miles on it that I'm 99% sure has the intake gasket problems that these vortec 350's are famous for. The previous owner (who I know well and has owned the suburban since 02 when he got it with 50k miles on it) said that it started...

    Type-h transmission fluid

Yeap, it's type H with out the dash, I'm not quite sure why I put it in there! It sounds like what your saying pretty much agrees with what I've found then that it's been superseded with mercron and that any fluid that safe with the mercron spec should be safe for this car, correct? Also on a...

    Type-h transmission fluid

Hi, I'm looking at changing the transmission fluid in an 86 tempo over the weekend that says it recommends type-h transmission fluid. This fluid specification as been long superseded it appears by both mercron and mercron V. I'm planning on using Mobil 1 full synthetic ATF as I've had really...

Mobil 1 Sythetic ATF in a ford spec to use Mercon

Hey, I'm planning on changing the ATX fluid in my 93 ford tempo very shortly which according to the book is suppose to use a mercon fluid. I'm looking very heavily into getting the Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF fluid as can be seen here. Do you guys for see any reason why this fluid should give me any...

    Ford Focus Using Oil

I've got a 99 Zx2 with 31k miles with the 2.0L zetec. I usually change the oil around 1k miles since that's usually around a year on the car, but I never have noticed any loss of oil over that time. I'd suggest against using anything heavier than 5w30 in that motor though do to the VCT.
