Do you sometimes randomly pick up trash?

I work in public transport and regularly visits bus depots, workshops and factory and always pickup sharp items. I also use the train to commute and move items left at stations by naughty kids away from the platforms - if it’s on the platform there’s a chance it’s going to be on the track, and...

I would love advice from Australians on my 1998 Camry oil

Adrian from Perth, WA. Autobarn has Valvoline Restore & Protect on special for $60. I would recommend that and stay with 5W30, get a couple bottles for service and top ups. What filter are you using? Supercheap now stock the Penrite filter and it looks like same quality as Ryco. For the...

Should oil brand matter so long as specs are met?

Different brands of the same spec oil have different outcomes with regards to cleanliness. This forum is filled with success stories of gummed up engines that got clean by running a different brand of oil. Brands make a difference, albeit it might be small. If your statement meant that...

How bad for your engine is burning oil?

A 2nd way to do the trick way of changing valve stem seals without removing the heads: with plugs out, feed a (new) nylon rope into the combustion chamber through (very clean) plug threads. Tighten up the crank with a wrench to compress the rope. Work very clean with this method! When cars had...

    Father/Son Project: 2006 Toyota Tacoma w/1GR-FE...Known Issues?

My 2005 Prado GRJ120 series has the same engine. Sludge is the biggest enemy of these engines. I can recommend checking for sludge buildup - check the filler cap, filler tube, shine a good torch into the oil filler tube to see the condition inside the timing cover. Also check in the timing...

    Possible dealer mishap

ATF for auto box is red. Oil for DSG is a very light variant of grey / brown (oil colour OK…) If the transmission has a dipstick, pull it, wipe on white paper towel - if it aint red you need to investigate further. If you aren’t tech minded / handed take it to a good indi shop to verify.

No Oil Pressure While Cranking 2020 GM 6.0 V8

Hi. Part of the question it seems is if the guage shows pressure during a clear crank - can you do a clear crank AFTER a couple of starts to establish if the guage will show pressure? I think your deduction that it doesn’t build pressure is correct due to oil level measured. Unfortunately I...

Valvoline Restore and Protect / Castrol Euro Edge in 1.8T VW

Learning from what worked on my 2.0 TSI tiguan, I can recommend: - do a piston soak to release stuck rings - dunno about Valvoline Restore and Protect, too expensive in Aus. I use VW 504 507 5W-30 or 40. Although manual says 502 and 505, the oil spec has been updated (my VW dealer said so) -...

    Wash and Wax

They work, I use the Meguiars yellow one. 2 of my 3 cars haven’t been waxed before winter rains and when wet there wasn’t any beading. After 1 go of the wash & wax they showed water beading! Some people may argue that beading is not an indication of wax… bla bla bla… good enough proof for me...

Any cheap / free ideas to cool a garage?

Hi. I don’t know if it’s an option for you, but do a search on “earth air tunnel”. I found it very interesting, but it would require some effort to install, but if you have time & equipment it could be a cheap option. For everyone else, please don’t shoot the messenger, ok A factory I worked...

    Screw In Tire - Arg!

I was very lucky just a week ago 🙏🏻🙏🏻 I always pick up screws and rivet sticks that could cause punctures for others - part of my good-deed-a-day penchant.
