Help with Engine knock - rod bearing/hydaulic lifter/fuel injector, which one?

Hi, Thanx for the idea. My understanding of the starter motor was that it's gear engages the engine only when cranking the engine with the key. So not sure how turning it would help with the engine off. I will look into it. I did do the vacuum test and that came out normal. Though it does not...

Help with Engine knock - rod bearing/hydaulic lifter/fuel injector, which one?

Hi, sorry for the late reply. I got busy with other priorities with life. Finally got round to doing the vacuum test. Engine is fine, no burnt valves. So there goes my theory. I even changed the TB and TPS, PCV. The MAP sensor reads fine as per the OBD reading. Infact the TPS reads fine too and...

Help with Engine knock - rod bearing/hydaulic lifter/fuel injector, which one?

Not likely, I don't hear any hissing sounds or see any visible cracks. The O2 sensor reads correctly . Also, an exhaust leak would cause a lean condition not rich.

Help with Engine knock - rod bearing/hydaulic lifter/fuel injector, which one?

Incase anyone is interested I have figured out what happened. Leak test is a long wayz away as not in the mood to remove any parts for something I am pretty sure off. Will post results of a vacuum test when I do it and it is a valid test to know if one has a burnt valve somewhere in the...

Help with Engine knock - rod bearing/hydaulic lifter/fuel injector, which one?

I cant get to the crankbolt to get the cylinder head to TDC. Its placed inline towards the front, and between it and the radiator fan, there is no place to barely fit my hand leave aside a wrench. I am going to see if can get my hands on a vacuum gauge. Should give me the same overall end result...

Help with Engine knock - rod bearing/hydaulic lifter/fuel injector, which one?

Hi, one thing puzzling me is if it were a burnt valve, I would imagine the rough idle would not go away when engine is hot. But am absolutely sure the rough idling often times reduces quite a bit to being of not much concern, when engine temp is past the quarter mark. If it were a burnt valve, i...

Help with Engine knock - rod bearing/hydaulic lifter/fuel injector, which one?

Hi, I agree it most likely is a valve issue. But like I mentioned d earlier manually cranking the engine seems impossible for now until I figure out how , for the leak test. I have the 190 Barra 4l, they are considered bullet proof. Car will likely break apart before the engine. Another engine...

Help with Engine knock - rod bearing/hydaulic lifter/fuel injector, which one?

Hi, for the most part you are right, but from all that I have thrown at it, my inner Sherlock Holmes and pink panther ( mostly pink panther) have deduced that it is a very (hoping) slightly stuck open exhaust valve only at idle due to a likely faulty lifter or some connected component in cyl 1...

Help with Engine knock - rod bearing/hydaulic lifter/fuel injector, which one?

Hi, haven't done a leak down or compression test. From all that I have read online, if they were ever required the car would exhibit symptoms of poor driving performance. I did want to do a fuel pressure test, but no schrader valve on my fuel rail, and I dont really have the guts to get under...

Help with Engine knock - rod bearing/hydaulic lifter/fuel injector, which one?

I have put in new ngk platinum spark plugs, made no diff. I used aftermarket coils for testing, made no diff, out the original back. In any case if it were the coils or plugs , I wouldn't have smooth acceleration n driving. Other than the rough shaking at idle I wouldn't even know there was...

Help with Engine knock - rod bearing/hydaulic lifter/fuel injector, which one?

Added 98, didn't help, my fuel economy grew worse. Added about 200ml hydraulic lifter additive, so far no help, but might take some time to work. I have noticed 2 things different now. My LTFt doesn't stay stuck at 14.5% while driving, it fluctuates, and more often than not , combined with STFt...

Help with Engine knock - rod bearing/hydaulic lifter/fuel injector, which one?

As an addition to the above steps. I also cleaned my electronic TB with carby, but it was clean to begin with. (MY car does not have an IAC ). I thought maybe the TB does not open at idle, but the scanner reading shows it to be partially open. MY PCV works fine as well. Airfilter is replaced.

Help with Engine knock - rod bearing/hydaulic lifter/fuel injector, which one?

Hi, I had the same thought. Considering replacing all my injectors, but would help to be sure what the exact issue is before throwing money at it. No misfires after injector work. Reason I suspect it's cyl 1 is cause I don't smell gas from the other ports. But I'd have thought replacing it would...

Help with Engine knock - rod bearing/hydaulic lifter/fuel injector, which one?

Hi, will give it a try, but pretty sure it's cyl 1. What do I do after narrowing down the cyl. How would I deduce what is causing the noise in the video I posted?

Hi, thanx for your quick reply. I was having difficulty posting the video. It should be on there now. Might have to turn up the vol. a bit.
