I had tried the MC 5W30 in my f150 with the 4.6 and will never do it again. My mpg dropped significantly. I had been using 10w30 mobil 1 syn. I switched back to the mobil 1 last week and my mpg have gone back up to what i was normally getting. Concensus was blow buy with the thinner oil.
I switched to the mobil 1 in my f150's rear and was told i still needed the modifier additive. Not sure if all those friction modifiers are the the same but if so, fords is like $4.
That knocking on the those cold mornings is called piston slap. Common problem in the modular motors. I had it then was told to switch to 10w30 m1 full syn with the fl820s filter.
i know this isn't a long term update, but mand what a difference.
The engine doesnt seem to rev up like it used too. I mean when i give it gas it used to fly up to 5000rpms fast, now it dont. It also just seems more torquey. Mileage is way up too.
Well im wishing i never did switch to that 5w20. Im wondering how much money i would've saved on gas. There is noticeable difference in driveability. It feels torquey
Whats the next weight of oil after 10w30?
Well I switched back to mobil 1 10w30 full syn. And I have noticed a huge difference in the way te engine is driving. I also have seen my mileage go up too. Not going through as much gas like before.
I'll keep a more long term report. And report back later on.
if i can get my *** out of bed early enough tomorrow i'll get the filter/oil. but it wont be changed till saturday the earliest. I've got the second shift at the pd this week.
Im not the original owner. I've owned it going on 3 years now. From what I can tell it was well maintained. But it was a fleet truck so who knows. I did use the Mobil 1 for nearly 2 1/2 years.
Ok im going to try this auto rx stuff when i get paid this week. How many times should I do it? Its pretty expensive stuff.
Also from that long paragraph of really smart oil terminology i kinda got the impression that I should go back to the 10w30? Not trying to sound like a smart *** , but i...
I will check my oil level and see how it is. Someone else had mentioned i might be getting blow buy since its a thinner oil.
I switched cause my dumb *** was thinking it might help with mpg. But it hasn't. Since I've done the oil change it has dropped. I have not changed my driving habbits or...
My mpg have dropped significantly in my f150 4.6 when i switched to motorcraft 5w20. I had been using 5w30 M1 for a while with no problems.
What could be causing my sudden drop off in mpg with the switch?
well i just picked up 6 quarts of the 5w20 motorcraft from wallie world. Im going to give it a shot. Been using m1 full syn. 10w30 then swtitched to 5w30. Getting a little expensive at 3000mile int.
