I've used whatever HM oil is on sale since somewhere around 200K miles. It's at 356K now and still doesn't leave any spots on the driveway. Consumption went way down when I switched. I made the mistake of using a AAP special on Castrol Edge at 190K, and consumption went from a qt every 1800...
Unless a transmission in broken (hard parts) there just isn't that much debris to capture. If one is finding anything other than a very fine paste on a magnet or filter or anywhere else at a fluid change, a fluid change wont help. My high mile trans has only had drain and fills, with one filter...
I've done 5 drain and fills using Maxlife and original trans still working fine at 351,000. I also drop the accumulator body and get a surprising amount of fluid from there.

I didn't expect them to go watercooled heads in 2014, but they did.
If you aren't afraid of Rural King (Warren) 15/40, 2 gallon jugs were on sale last week for 12.99 It was cheaper than the same oil in 55 gallon drum. I bought 8 gallons, but the guy with me has many machines and bout 66 gallons. The total was less than the 55 gal drum...
320,000 on my 2003 Bonneville. Just routine maintenance. Eng and trans both are untouched internals.
PS, don't believe everything you hear about OCOD filters....
I agree. I was just pointing out that IMO a pyro is useless for cool-down info. Turbo timers are useful, if one just has to jump out of the vehicle as soon as it screeches to a stop.
EGTs are probably not a very good piece of data for coking at shutdown. If you run 30 minutes at 1200, let off the accelerator, your EGTs should drop in several seconds (mine go to 275-300 or so). The bearing on the turbine side is still going to be way hotter than that.
If you only drive it 500 miles a year, consider getting fuel from a small airport. Its a little more expensive, but 40 gallons or so a year won't be a large $ amount. You'll probably need a couple of 5 gal jugs, as most airports aren't fond of cars filling up at the pump.
Hard to find cheap oil that is decent? Mobil 1 for $23.XX per 5qt jug is decent. Magnuson-Moss means the dealer would probably have a tough time proving a non MS6395 oil caused any issue. I guess if your drain plug falls out, they might.
I'll bet millions of warrantied Caravans are running...
My vote is starting a cold engine and using too much power before temp is at least 150F or so.
I'd love to compare wear on an engine that is started cold and within 30 seconds pulls out of a tough driveway using 75% power or more.
Apples to oranges on dealer vs quick-lube. I've seen dealers in my area do 14.99 oil changes. This is not a $15 oil change in most cases. It's an opportunity to inspect the vehicle, run the VIN, and sell other services. A former co-worker of mine asked "where is the best place to get an oil...
