    1977 CR 125M "barn find"

    Love it. I had a 75 KX 125.

    Refreshing an older Mountain Bike

This made me smile. I remember many years ago my aunt Harumi explaining to me how she was taught to speak English prior to her trip to the states. One of the phrases she was taught was “Kenai heh poo?” to mean can I help you? In the same vein one of the most famous Japanese mystery writers used...

    Refreshing an older Mountain Bike

I sold these. That Cunningham design was radical for the time, but came at an odd time when mtbs were changing rapidly. I could be wrong, it’s hard to see in the photo, but it appears the linkless straddle cable on the rear caliper is too long. You’ll have very little braking power with the...

    Professional cycling mechanical doping

That was in a TdF. IIRC this was the girl who won a cross event. She suspiciously moves through the field, uphill, while casually stretching with her hands off the bars. Though to be fair Dan Chew did the same to me in a national championship in Arizona. Maybe I should have checked his bb after...

    Bike Chain Wear

Don’t use gasoline! I’m a safety third kind of guy but that’s too much. Professional mechanics used to use diesel or kerosene which both work incredibly well. Nowadays the PC police will arrest you but it’s still a good choice IMO.

Almost quit cycling, but I'm back on the saddle again

Scott, I find this thread, and you, to be fascinating. I wish you luck, and applaud you for getting back on the bike.

    Lube new chain before using?

Your issue is unrelated to chain lube. That’s all I’m sure about. I’m pretty sure it isn’t a hanger alignment issue either, although it would be a good idea to check. Almost certainly the noise is related to something you replaced. The chain, middle chainring, cassette, and especially the...

Bike tires and tubes lifespan ?

There are a lot of variables. Old bike racers know that aged handmade tires roll better and are less likely to puncture than green tires. On the other hand, sunlight and ozone (e.g. from being stored near a refrigerator) degrade rubber and, especially latex. I would try to store my bike out of...

    Craigslist find - Gary Fisher

Make sure you plug those handlebars. You don’t want to get in an accident and impale yourself.

    Whats your favorite rifle?

I own multiple rifles but I do have a favorite. It was my father’s Weatherby, made in West Germany. It has an incredibly figured stock, Leupold scope, and is chambered in .224 Weatherby magnum. It was integral to one of my strongest childhood memories. I’ve never fired it.

Looking for class 3 ebike stand over type geometry, any thoughts on a good one

I ride A LOT of e-bikes and maybe I can help a little, but ultimately you’ll have to do a lot of research. You might get ideas here but we’re certainly not going to figure it out for you. The problem from my standpoint is that what you want surely doesn’t exist so you have to find the best...

    E-bikes and thoughts

If you need to go faster I strongly suggest you get a Class 3. I absolutely do not recommend a rear hub motor if you can afford a Bosch.
