Explain speed rating T vs. H vs. V

This was so worth bumping a thread back up...

    Tire pressure??

Wow, that's handy! Generally you can play with the pressures anywhere between the vehicle recommended PSI and the maximum stated on the tire, but not above or below this. You should know how the changes you make affect the vehicle before messing around though... The Michelin guide 1sttruck...

    going lugcentric

It's fine and not a safety issue. Not resting on the hub ring *might* cause some high speed vibration, but it shouldn't be that bad even if you get any.

Interesting thing a Bridgestone/Firestone Engineer told me

Heheh, although this is O/T that would explain why a friend of mine has a '99 Olds Alero that makes this HORRIBLE warbling, metallic noise when you take corners. It makes you think the bearings are totally gone or the wheel is about to wobble off the studs! It's gotten worse over time and they...

Just bought my first car, and some slight concerns.

You are completely missing the point of the H, V, W, or Y speed ratings. A lot of people replace original H or V rated tires with S or T rated tires that look good to them and has an astronomical treadwear rating, thinking exactly what you are thinking - that they will never drive at those...

    215/70-15 98H or 205/75-15 98H

Between the two I'd go with the Nokian Hakka myself as they are reputedly hard to beat, but if you want to try something less proven and new, them maybe try the Green Diamonds. Some people have reservations about their use of old Michelin (MXV?) tire carcasses though.

    215/70-15 98H or 205/75-15 98H

If you like the Blizzaks and they last you a few years, I think you're doing well with them and should stick with what works. Tires like the Blizzak WS-50 are probably among the best for maximum snow/ice traction above all else partially because of the special microcellular rubber compound used...

Best way to reseal alloy rims??

Be very careful not to get any brake cleaner on painted surfaces, as some wheels are painted inside and out. Brake cleaner has been known to strip off paint, much like paint stripper (methylene chloride). I've experienced this while prepping my wheels for painting, and was surprised that it was...

Nemco Red Max alum. complex grease - Canada

Hmm, okay thanks. I'll have to read up on this GCLB spec, but for now I'm going to interpret this as "no"...

    RADIAL ROTATION

100 psi?!?! Truly scary... Some tires even tell you "Do not exceed xx psi to seat beads".... the last one I saw that said that was below the max psi. Kinda reminds me of those stories I heard about the old days when kids would crank up the psi setting on automatic tire inflators at gas...

    Wider tires quieter?

Yeah, the last time I drove down to the US, I noticed that you Americans have really noisy highways! Must be harder wearing and more heat resistant though.... is it concrete?

    RADIAL ROTATION

I think you're thinking of the nearly extinct TRX size, which had a metric wheel diameter. I don't know who else made these tires, but I know Michelin did back then... and surprisingly still does in a few sizes. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Michelin&tireModel=TRX...

    Wider tires quieter?

A minor change in tire width, say 10 to 20 mm, won't change very much. The particular tire model and tire type (economy, touring, high performance, etc) will make more difference because of tread design. Noise is usually a function of tread design and they can control the way the rubber blocks...

    RADIAL ROTATION

I am pretty sure that I have read tire professionals state that radial tires these days CAN be rotated in the old criss-cross way. I believe the reason for the front to back only thing was that in the past some tires would "take a set" and would fail if turned the other way. Apparently this...

Nemco Red Max alum. complex grease - Canada

Thanks... I haven't had a chance to redo the test yet though. I noticed their page said camper and boat trailer wheel bearings. This is probably a really stupid question, but are these somehow different from wheel bearings on vehicles?? This isn't the first time I've seen this kind of...
