Rest of the car seems pretty reliable other than the engine. So hopefully we can keep this one for another 5 years at least. Then my wife will be sick of it.
I've had the same 84 Oldsmobile since 2007 but I don't drive it in the winter.
Were you one of those guys who's always changing throttle position while driving for no reason? Or just bad luck? My father in law is in his mid 60s and he's one of those guys, terrible driver even though he thinks he's the best.
No offense, I've just rode with a lot of people who seem like...
I think it would be more than annoying. It's a $3000+ job at a shop and even a lot of licensed mechanics aren't willing to do it...not exactly like a $1000 timing belt job.
My families 2010 failed at over 200k and even that made them think that maybe they shouldn't have given ford another...
I wish I had a uoa of ours just before it seized up. I assume there would be high copper right as it's the rod bearings that fail on these.
Certainly doesn't appear that this one is about to seize. How many miles on the engine?
They are also the most likely to blow up an engine so not sure it's a good way to judge next practice.
It's just like guys saying do long oil change intervals because the number of people with failed engines is not close to 100%. If you want around an auto auction yard you will realize it's...
I just bought 3 oil filters yesterday....2 Fran ultra (1 for my cub Cadet lawn tractor with a Kohler v twin and one for my wife's brand new Hyundai 2.4 theta 2). My third one was Mobil 1 m1-107 for my 2005 Silverado 4.8. I use the same one usually on my 350 Oldsmobile in my 84 Cutlass...but the...
A friend of mine is a licensed mechanic and he would never sell a vehicle safetied only because of this. Even if he knew it should pass a safety the buyer would have to get it safetied themselves because he didn't want a fight with someone who thought safetied meant an implied warranty of some kind.
I don't want to jinx it but I haven't had any failures personally and I've changed out possibly original fluid in multiple high mileage transmissions that I've owned. Current 256k miles on the 4L60E in my 05 Silverado... working fine. Nearly 300k miles on the 2004R in my 84 olds. Several 2004R...
Forgot to take pictures, as it was on the other side and very hard it see ..but it may be leaking a small amount of oil from the valve cover gasket. My wife was smelling burning with the heat on high and I can see signs of a small amount only at one hard to see part of the valve cover gasket...
Ok I got ya. I only knew about the red dipstick from some info in one of the early tsb's related to engine failure. It explained the orange dipstick replaced the yellow one once they did their noise detection inspection down the oil fill hole to check for knock. And if the engine was replaced it...
