I bought a cartridge type Titanium the other day for my 3.6 Colorado. The box said synthetic blend media. I was thinking that both the Titanium and Ultra were synthetic media filters? I'm not complaining but $15 for a blend filter is kinda steep.
I've always done it on every new truck I have owned. I actually do my first few oil changes a bit on the early side. What model Toyota is it by the way?
Have you considered just running a heavier oil in it? I had an old Cub Cadet lawn tractor that smoked and was a little noisy so I just ran 20w-50 conventional in it. It still used a little oil but ran decent.
I can get API SP/ GF6 Pennzoil Platinum 5w-30 in 5 quart jugs and 1 quart bottles at my local Wal Mart. I can also get Mobil 1 High Mileage 5w-30 in the 5 quart jug but not in the single quarts yet. Everything else is SN Plus/ GF5. I'm waiting for my local Kendall distributor to get the new...
I wouldn't say it smells pleasant but if you really wanted to smell something bad then find an old bottle of limited slip additive from days gone by. That stuff was horrid.
Thank you so much for the heads-up. I have been buying mostly Sunoco for the last year and a half simply because they were Top Tier. Since they have decided to cheap out I will take my few hundred dollars of fuel purchases a month to BP, Shell and Exxon.
Have you considered Mobil 1 High Mileage 5w-30? I use it in my friend's 2007 Chevy Avalanche 5.3 V8 with 172,000 miles. Works great and it has stopped a minor oil leak. It's on the thick side for a 5w-30.

"Unbeatbale"
Because...
The new Pennzoil Platinum API SP 5w-30 is actually a 5w-20. Its 100C viscosity is only 8.6. I wish I would have known that before doing an oil change and putting 6 quarts in my Colorado 3.6 V6 today.
