This is correct. Maybe there has been some confusion- I'm familiar with what the manufacturer recommends. I was just looking for people to share first hand experiences with this transmission and their preferred fluid type. However, It's starting to look like performance of different fluid types...

I did contact them, but their answers were pretty "cookie cutter". They wouldn't give any real world answers, just a TDS and told me to verify compatibility with owners manual. Seemed to avoid my direct questions, and they stopped replying to me after the second email.

GL4? The manual calls for GL5, although the Motul is “GL4/GL5”

I believe this is true for standard WRX but not for the WRX STI variant- which is completely different mechanically.
