It's not valve train, it is a bottom end sound. Oil gauge is a good idea, but I don't have one. That makes sense and perhaps the heavier oil suggested above may help this out.
Our 2000 Windstar SEL 3.8L (53K miles) has started making a knocking sound only while idling and only when really warmed up in higher ambient temps (over 75C).
Used Castrol GTX 5W-30 last change and sound is better, but weather is also cooler.
Is there a better choice to use? This a well known...
Ford is pretty specific about using the 5W-20, they mark about everywhere in the manual and engine compartment. I think I'll stick with their recommendation. But the Havoline sounds great!
I hadn't decided on an OCI as yet. Most likely, I'll shoot for 5K miles, or about every 10 weeks.
I am not comfortable going much further than 5K on oil, that's why I don't think syn-blend or synthetic makes sense.
Car has 40K miles on it, of which, I put on the last 4K.
Ready for my first oil change in my 04' Sable LS with the 24V Duratec engine.
Sounds like I need to use 5W-20.
Which is the best value vs. quality for this?
Car does 400-500 highway miles per week.
Do not want to use synthetic as with frequency I will be changing (every 8 - 10 weeks), its too...
So I know I need to get the M1 10W-30 out of my LS-1, but just did it, too expensive to pour away. I'll wait 6K miles then,
M1 5W-40 Truck & SUV
OR
M Ext Perf. 10W-40
Car has 77K miles on it, live in Tampa for weather consideratios.
Thanks Guys!
Sorry if this has been posted and beaten to death before, but I am new to the forum.
I have an 00' WS6 with an LS-1 which has 77K miles on it. I just put in M1 10W-30 as Walmart had NOTHING else in 5 quart jug!
What is the best brand, weight, and miles you would suggest using?
I put 350 - 400...
