New gear shift knob, or maybe not?

    I like that idea, thanks!

New gear shift knob, or maybe not?

Long story short: I have an aftermarket sts (OTTP) shifter in my Saturn Ion Redline. That knob is threaded 3/4-16. I bought another shift knob that is 10x1.25 that of course does not fit, but came with 3 different adaptors, none of which fit... Is there some weird old carpenters trick of...

Time for new brakes, Saturn Ion Redline

By 'more bite', I do mean more stopping power. The couple times I had a panic stop situation, it just feels like it could stop harder. Tough to explain. I could get a Brembo front brake kit (calipers, pads + rotors) but then I need new winter wheels and tires....and then I'm well over...

Time for new brakes, Saturn Ion Redline

So it is time for new brakes on my 06 Saturn Ion Redline. When I got the car 7 years ago the p/o put on brand new ceramic pads and new oem rotors. They have been fine, however I would like a bit more bite from the pads, something more aggressive but still on the cleaner side dust wise. I...

    Garbage remanufactured parts... Venting

I replaced the original timing chain on my 96 Saturn DOHC engine, not because it was worn, but the engine was out and at 275k km I thought it would be good preventative maintenance, so new guides tensioner and everything, all new from Coyes. At 140 k km I was getting a rattle at start up, and...

Front strut options for 2018 Subaru Impreza?

A friend of mine has the same issue with his '18 Impresa.... he wants stiffer rear springs and Bilsteins, no one has anything. Even when new this Subaru was on the floaty side, which is not too surprising since there is no rear sway bar and those springs are soft.

    Car accelerate right after start

My 06 Saturn Ion Redline rev flares hard especially when it's below freezing. Never above 2500 rpm though, and never for longer than 10 seconds.

Best Winter tire for FWD with a bit too much power....

I also have a Quaife LSD that from what I understand is not supposed to wear out. I would be surprised if there was something wrong with it as the car only has 110 k miles on it and was never beat on. Of course I have snow tires on all four wheels, 205/55/16s. I've gotten used to these tires, as...

    Post your latest oil change

I've been using Corrosion Free for years now, I like how it's non toxic, dripless and odorless! I've used some oil sprays in the past that really made the car smell terrible for days after the treatment.

GM Ecotec 2.2 non-VVT durability question

If you buy the vehicle and plan to keep it, I would just do the chains and w/p all at the same time. I think ZZP sells upgraded guides if you plan on doing aggressive driving. I would jump on a Vue with a 5 spd, not many around, and those are very tough transaxles. They are pretty tough units...

Best Winter tire for FWD with a bit too much power....

The tires were made in 2021, so not too old. Thanks for clarifying, I think on that note I'll just live with them and maybe get a pedal commander or some other way to de tune the throttle response....

Best Winter tire for FWD with a bit too much power....

Ya sometimes I have to start in second gear, or no go in the snow 😁

Best Winter tire for FWD with a bit too much power....

I have a Saturn Ion Redline that I'm guessing makes a bit north of 200 whp, LSD and 0 traction control. It's a light car too, just 2900 lbs. I bought a new set of Continental Winter Contact SI Plus tires last year, and wow these tires spin like crazy off the line if I'm not careful...

First Post! 2006 Saturn Ion Redline

Cool, thanks for the tip! I have been using Mobil 1 filters, but will look into the Purflux units. I remember using those on my Peugeot 505!

Thank you! Yes, I take very good care of this car. I even replaced the timing chain @ 100 k miles just to be on the safe side....

Thank you! I always use 5w30 full synth. I've considered switching back to the stock intake system, but I'm addicted to hearing the S/C screaming away....

First Post! 2006 Saturn Ion Redline

Hello to all. As the title states I have a Saturn Ion Redline with a supercharged 2.0 Ecotec gas engine with 110 k miles on it. It used to be a mostly highway car (80%), and I would change the oil and filter (Mobil 1) roughly every 5000 miles or one year, which ever came first. Now I drive...
